The Solheim Cup is just near the corner as LPGA stars enter the month of September. With its anticipation at its peak, the US team announced its roster which backs some of the eminent names. However, apart from the experienced professionals, the crew also consists of rookie golfers who have yet to make their debut on the team.

Concerning the same, it was only a given for reporters to take this line of questioning at the 2023 Portland Classic. Hence, as the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open sat down for the press conference prior to the event, she reflected on the team’s strength and impetus. This allowed the golfer to mention the likes of Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, Lilia Vu, Rose Zhang, and others.

In a recent press conference at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club, 25-year-old Megan Khang was faced with diverse questions regarding her gameplay and preparation for the tournament. However, the highlight of the line of questioning was surrounding her Solheim Cup entry and the team she had to work with.

The young star was asked about finally getting to know what her whole bunch at the most prestigious team event looks like. The LPGA professional, addressing the tournament on the Spanish greens, was all praises for her teammates. Starting with Lilia Vu, she mentioned her being “a two-time major winner,” reflecting how her experience will surely prove to be beneficial for the team.

Next, she moved on to the rising prodigy of the sport, Rose Zhang. She applauded the young golfer for a win during her first event and added about her own victory at the CPCK Women’s Open. Highlighting the fact that they have five rookies on the team, she opposed the outlook in her answer. Stating her reason for this, she added how, with everyone having tasted great victories on the field, it is unfair to refer to them as rookies.

Praising Zhang even further, she continued, “I think Rose has shown she’s such a good player. She’s performed very well at majors“. She was quick to reiterate feeling the same way for everyone, especially the way all of them were familiar with what pressure is. Talking about the LPGA cover girl, Nelly Korda, Khang expressed how she is a major winner and thus plays a crucial role.

She even praised the other experienced golf stars like Lexi Thompson and Danielle Kang. Besides mentioning her exceptional bunch of fellow team members, the 1-time LPGA Tour Victor shed light upon the motivation her team carries forth.

Megan Khang emphasizes the driving force of Team USA

While she was all in awe of her team players, Meghan Khang was quick to also express her thoughts on the preparation and “momentum” going into the event. She stated that, according to her, the team has a great aura surrounding them.

Despite knowing the European team beforehand, she emphasized knowing how strong their group came out to be. She seemed content with the final list of 12 players representing America.

Adding on to her compliments, she said, “We have a bunch of major winners“. She sounded amazed at the revelation that despite the team being so young and mostly in their 20s, it still had three veteran stars. Her aim seemed clear—looking out to enjoy her week on the big stage, along with providing all necessary support to her fellow members.
