Although golf is a competitive sport, with golfers going head to head with each other during most of the days, the competition is limited just to the course. Outside of the ropes, many like to maintain harmonious relationships with each other in the spirit of sportsmanship.

Well, if not all golfers believe in outside-of-the-course friendship, then at least Rose Zhang does! Why? Despite her recent disheartening result, she was there to celebrate her friend’s remarkable and historic feat.

The final day of every tournament brings a lot of feelings and emotions for a golfer. Some are happy with their own accomplishments, some cheer for their fellow golfers’ feats, and some, not so much. Rose Zhang recently had somewhat mixed emotions after the Kroger Queen City Championship’s final round.

After ending her third day at T14, the golfer ultimately finished in 31st position on Sunday. But her disheartening finish was not the center of attraction, even for the golfer herself. After finishing third in the tournament, China’s Yin Ruoning became the only second Chinese woman to be on the top of the world rankings.

Ruoning’s growth in the last few years has been spectacular. At the end of 2019, she was ranked 482. But last year, in 2022, she jumped to 101st rank showing remarkable progress, and this year, she sits at the apex position as the world’s number one golfer.

As the congratulations poured in for the 20-year-old Chinese star, her friend Zhang also chimed in and celebrated her achievement. She shared a Golf Channel post on her Instagram story congratulating Yin Ruoning and wrote, “Too Cool” with an emotional emoji on the side.

Zhang displayed that she is a true sportsperson as she celebrated her friend’s historic feat, rather than feeling sad about her disappointing finish in Cincinnati.

This was not the first time that the Stanford Star shared something in support of her friend, or praised her. Just recently, she praised one of her LPGA Tour friend’s form and her determination.

Zhang likes to believe in the spirit of friendship

On Saturday, Zhang lovingly spoke of her friend Chien Peiyun, who is known as ‘Money’ amongst the fans. The Stanford graduate shared that she was absolutely elated about her friend’s success, as she knows how hard she works and the kind of love she has for the sport.

Praising Peiyun, Zhang said that she is a “grinder at heart.” Talking about their equation, the 20-year-old said that she often relies on ‘Money’ for advice as she has a lot more experience than her. Zhang also praised Peiyun for her optimism towards the game and was just short of words to see her friend’s hard work pay off.
