Over 1,600 flights across the country were canceled by Tuesday, per flight-tracking site FlightAware, due to storms raging up and down the East Coast. The severe weather further led to the delay of over 5,400 more flights, with Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in New York being the most affected ones.
Per Golfweek, many LPGA athletes were caught in the predicament as they attempted to fly back home after their outings at Baltusrol. Mel Reid, who finished T24 at the competition, and her wife had to ditch their tickets and drive back to Jacksonville, Florida, instead.

Another player who was affected by the flight delay is 25-year-old Allisen Corpuz. Per her Instagram story, she had to spend 30 hours waiting to catch a flight back to Los Angeles! Corpuz had earlier tied for the 15th position at the Women’s PGA Championship. Emma Talley and Madelene Sagstrom were among the others whose plans were disrupted due to the storms.
On the other hand, the Detroit Golf Club, which is the turf for the PGA Tour’s next event, also incurred severe damage last Sunday. The venue in Michigan will host the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic from June 29th to July 2nd.

Per the Detroit News, the course was shut down so that the grounds crew could take care of the debris. However, PGA Tour players were allowed to return to the greens later in the day for practice rounds.
The venue, however, remains largely unscathed. This means the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic will go on as expected unless bad weather chooses to strike again. The exciting tournament will see the likes of Tony Finau, Max Homa, Justin Thomas, and more headlining the 156-player field!
