It has been over a week since the gruesome competition of three days, the prestigious Solheim Cup, the sister tournament of the Ryder Cup, got over. Though the result of the tournament was not what the American fans or the American team expected, Team USA lost to their European counterparts at Finca Cortesin in Spain, and the moment was truly heartbreaking for the Americans. One person who seemed to have been bothered a bit too much by the devastating heartbreak is none other than LPGA cover girl Nelly Korda.
In the final singles match between Nelly Korda and Carlota Ciganda during the Solheim Cup, Carlota Ciganda made the final putt and tied the score at 14-14 for both teams. As a result of the tie, Team Europe retained the Solheim Cup, as they won it in 2021 as well. But after that heartbreaking defeat, the younger Korda sister has somewhat disappeared.

Nelly Korda has always been that bubbly golfer who has the heart and spirit of a child. She often shows her childlike personality on the internet to her fans and keeps sharing her daily shenanigans on social media. Her fans love to see her lesser-known, less fierce personality off-the-course, but since last week’s biennial event got over, the former world number 1 golfer has barely posted anything on social media.
After every tournament, whether she wins or loses, Korda posts on social media and thanks her fans for supporting her. But in the aftermath of the Solheim Cup, Korda did not share anything on her Instagram or Twitter accounts. Her compatriots, such as Megan Khang and Rose Zhang, have been pretty active on social media, but not Nelly Korda.
Not only from social media, but the golfer has decided to take a break from golf tournaments as well. 1X major champion decided to sit out of the LPGA Tour’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G and the Ladies European Tour’s Lacoste Ladies Open de France’s Tournament. When the field for these events was announced, Korda’s name was missing from the roster.
Though her fans will await her presence on the field, playing all 72 holes during the Solheim Cup might have taken a toll on her health. Not only for the 72 hours of competition, but she was also engaged in hectic practice sessions during the days leading up to the prestigious team tournament. Her being physically tired and exhausted could be one of the reasons she has decided to sit out of the events.
Korda worked very hard to prepare for the Solheim Cup, and the defeat may have taken a mental toll on her as well and might have downturned her spirits. Although winning and losing are part of the game, this year’s loss for America was even more devastating than previous ones.

This year’s Solheim Cup appearance marked Nelly Korda’s third appearance in the tournament and the first without her sister Jessica Korda by her side. Her sister, LPGA star Jessica Korda, is soon to be a mama and is currently on hiatus. Not having her sister by her side in the tough moments of defeat might have added a bit more to the heartbreak.
The 2023 Solheim Cup was regarded as historic in both ways, in that if Europe had won, it would mark their third consecutive victory against America in the tournament. And, on the other side, the 2023 defeat would also mark America’s third consecutive defeat in the tournament. Well, history indeed was made that day, but the pain that was brought upon the American golfers that day has definitely been hard to bear. What might have been like adding salt to the wound for Korda was the fact that Europe did not win the cup, but they retained it after the tie.
