Only a handful of professional athletes have seen as much success as Annika Sorenstam has playing golf. In a career spanning decades, she has won 90 worldwide tournaments. 72 of these wins have come on the LPGA Tour, including 10 majors. Sorenstam was also the first-ever player in LPGA to shoot 59 in tournament play, back in 2001. And no one has been able to match that feat since.
So, what is the key to her professional success? Well, it all came down to one word for the golf great: consistency. “I would say that’s kind of been my bread and butter, right? That’s consistency, playing well, you know, throughout a tournament,” said the 52-year-old in a clip shared by deWiz Golf on Instagram. “I’m pretty steady. Some people think that’s boring, but I’m never getting bored. I just like to keep the consistency in hitting fairways, hitting greens, swings that look very similar, because if I have that, then that gives me confidence.”

A female golfer making an appearance at a PGA Tour event is an extremely rare sight. It was, therefore, groundbreaking when Annika Sorenstam did it way back in 2003. That year, a then-32-year-old Sorenstam teed it up alongside top male players in Fort Worth for the Bank of America Colonial event.
She had finished in 96th place, better than 11 other men, including eventual U.S. Open winner Geoff Ogilvy and a former Players Champion, Craig Perks. While her run in the event ended after rounds of 71 and 74, Sorenstam ended up scripting one of the most iconic moments in golf. On the 20th anniversary of her appearance, the PGA Tour also took to social media to offer golf fans a glimpse into the memorable event.
