The AIG Women’s Open just got over at the Walton Heath Club, where Lilia Vu clinched her second major championship. Following Vu, Charley Hull finished second for an agonizing fourth time this year. Subsequently, the runner-up spoke in a press conference about how this was frustrating for her.

Hull spoke determinedly about her plans to win a major tournament in the upcoming year. She even expressed intentions of making her ‘hands bleed’ in pursuit of victory.

Finishing second in two major tournaments has gotten Charley Hull both excited and frustrated. The 27-year-old has outdone herself this year, finishing four tournaments at number 2, including the U.S. Women’s Open and, more recently, the AIG Women’s Open. While Hull has yet to win a major championship, she seems to be farther on that path now.

Sharing her mixed emotions, Hull acknowledged she played unbelievably well. However, she also expressed her disappointment over the same. “Yeah, it’s just annoying because this is my fourth second-place finish of the year, so yeah, and second second-place finish in a major.”

The English golfer can’t wait to get to 2024 to take part in the majors again and seal the deal with a win or two. She enthusiastically remarked on how she had already started preparing for the next year.

“I really feel like next year’s my time to win one and I want to get started as soon as possible. I want to make my hands bleed, I want to hit that many golf balls,” she remarked via Sky Sports.

Hull’s state of mind makes more sense once you look at her scores and that of the title winner, Lilia Vu.

Lilia Vu Beats Charley Hull and others to finish at the top

With a commanding score of 14-under, Lilia Vu dominated throughout the AIG Women’s Open. However, it was the fourth and final round that decided this outcome.

Vu soared with her 5-under in the final round, whereas Hull ended up with a 1-over. Had Hull matched Vu’s score in the final round, the possibility of a playoff for the title would have been on the table. This is probably why Hull found the result annoying.
