The beauty of team sports is the whole team rivalry aspect of it. Although individual sports have rivalries, they are usually not as intense as team rivalries. While golf is an individual sport, it has some team events. The Solheim Cup is among the top few team events in the golfing world.
In a recent press conference, Charley Hull answered a question about her rival team members, by whom on the Tour she had faced crushing defeat a few months earlier. While many would be looking for revenge on the course, the English golfer was certainly not. And her answer about how she was feeling about the Sunday singles match against one of them was, though graceful, a little soft!

The question mentioned how twice Charley Hull came close to winning a major championship this year. She fell behind Allisen Corpuz once and Lilia Vu in another instance. Now, both Corpuz and Vu will play in the Solheim Cup against the European team in the coming week.
Considering this, the question focused on Hull’s preferred opponent for the Sunday singles match. The 27-year-old said, “I like a lot of the girls, most of the girls on the U.S. Solheim team.” She called them nice girls. Answering the question, Hull said she would prefer to play against Lilia Vu.
She commended her game on Sunday at the British Open, where the final round favored Vu to win the event. She also mentioned her loss against Vu during the Bank of Hope LPGA match play in Vegas in 2022. Hull said that she would not mind playing against Lilia Vu. She expressed that she likes playing with Vu, whom she described as ‘a really nice person’.
For the uninitiated, during the US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach, Allisen Corpuz took the lead and bagged the title. Hull finished in a shared second position. In the British Open at Walton Heath, Lilia Vu outperformed Charley Hull and clinched the title. Hull finished in a solo second position.
Even though Hull’s comments on her rivals showcase her as being full of confidence and hope ahead of the international face-off, they perhaps sound a bit too soft. And at a time when she faces a hindrance to her game, perhaps that is not ideal! The British golfer recently experienced a health concern, which may just be a cause for concern in the head-to-head matches that pop up this weekend!

Is Hull not at 100% at the Solheim Cup?
Speaking to a journalist from Sky Sports, Charley Hull mentioned how she sustained a neck injury recently. She apparently sprained during practice and complained that it was still sore as she answered her questions. Hull even mentioned how the sprain has affected her swings a bit.
To avoid further injury, the LPGA star is currently limiting her swings to about 80% of her usual intensity. Although Hull didn’t seem too worried about the sprain, it may be possible that her injury limits her beyond practice and during crucial times as well. And even though she was not too ferocious about possibly facing off against her major championship rivals on Sunday, she will undoubtedly want to win!
