A T18 at the Tournament of Champions. A T55 at the LPGA Drive-On Championship. Unfortunately, Lilia Vu has not had the best start to the year. But even so, she witnessed a glimmer of hope as the LPGA Tour pro finished T7 at the third event of the 2024 calendar. However, misfortune struck the golfer soon after, as she was forced to withdraw from the next two events, causing worry among her fans.

Now, the women’s circuit has arrived back in the United States for the FIR HILLS Seri Pak Championship. Meanwhile, one can’t help but wonder if the 26-year-old will be able to tee it up at the upcoming event after the two WDs she experienced weeks ago owing to her illness!

The tournament field for the upcoming LPGA Tour event was finalized on March 18, Monday, after the 18-hole Monday qualifiers, which saw Sophia Schubert and Alena Sharp grab the final two spots. What’s more, interestingly, Vu’s name is also headlining the field of 144 golfers who are vying for the trophy and a cut of the $2 million purse.

This, in turn, paints a hopeful picture for her fans, hinting at a possible full recovery from the illness she experienced back in China. Moreover, the 2-time major champ would, thus, be able to make a proper comeback after being forced to pull out of the HSBC Women’s World Championship and the Blue Bay LPGA, the latter of which she withdrew after the first round after scoring an even par 72.

However, in the event that took place in Singapore, she carded figures of 69-74-68 over the three days of play on the par-72 course. Following this, she scored five bogeys and one double bogey on Sunday in the first 13 holes before pulling out of the same. Sadly, the past few years for her have been riddled with injuries. Apart from the recent concerns, the 26-year-old had a back injury scare at the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open, due to which she had to take a month-long break.

Although the player has committed to the upcoming event on the LPGA Tour calendar, only time will tell if she will be able to finish it on Sunday. Why? Well, the American professional was visibly hopeful when entering the field for the previous tournament held in China, only to pull out later on.

Vu’s optimistic outlook at the Blue Bay LPGA

“Last week my body wasn’t feeling great overall physically,” divulged Lilia Vu before adding, “It was just Sunday that I couldn’t handle.” The athlete was recounting the reason behind her WD from the HSBC Women’s World Championship after she flew to China for the $2.2 million purse event. Regardless, she confessed she had a simple strategy: “So I took the whole day off yesterday, and hopefully I can regroup and have a good week this week.
