Katherine Morikawa will have someone by her side the next time she goes for a marathon. It will be a four-year-old kid with a golf connection. No, Collin Morikawa and his wife haven’t adopted anyone. Rather, Katherine has found an unlikely partner in Michelle Wie West’s daughter, who might just give her a run (pun fully intended) for money.
Michelle Wie West has two kids. Her daughter, Makenna, has turned four, and she welcomed her second child, Jerry, just a few months back. We are, of course, talking about Makenna. Now, thanks to her famous mom, the golf community got to hear a few tales of her, like the time she ‘embarrassed’ her major-winning mommy by telling her teacher that her “parents are going to LA to get the baby.” This time, though, Mommy is proud and joyous.
West, although absent from the greens now, likes to tee off regularly on her home course. Makenna also accompanied her mother this time. But she ditched the cart (only for the old, right!) in favor of running. Not walking the course but sprinting while her mom ‘raced’ with the cart. West, sharing a clip on her Instagram story, tagged Katherine Morikawa. She wrote, “I found your next running partner (laughing emojis), and I found the perfect way to tire out my 4-year-old (laughing emojis).”

All good, except she didn’t tire a bit. In the next story, the five-time LPGA Tour winner wrote on her Instagram Story, “She wanted to run all the way back home. Literally the worst shoes to run in I know but never would have thought she was gonna run a mile today.” Well, at this rate, she might even give Forrest Gump a run for his money. And guess what? She has taken an interest in golf as well.
Michelle Wie West shares her daughter’s golf skills
It seems it was a full West family day out on the greens. Makenna was obviously the happiest one. The four-year-old actually teed off with her dad’s driver. The club was bigger than her frame. WAY BIGGER! But she did wield the weapon with surprising dexterity. West posted some snippets on her Instagram story captioning, “Begged us to play a few holes.”

It’s too early to predict whether she will follow in her mother’s footsteps or not. But Michelle Wie West knows the snares of fame at an early age. She herself has bore the brunt of constant media attention and the burden of expectations since her teenage years. West revealed she and her parents even faced grave threats when she teed off in the men’s events. At the same time, she was also bullied in school. So, definitely, she wants to protect Makenna from all that. At the same time, it’s clear she would love to hand the golf clubs to her should Makenna want it.
