Is she the female version of John Daly? Well, that question must have crossed the minds of many when they spotted Charley Hull ripping a cigarette and signing autographs off the course. While her smoking habits did turn out to be a shocker for the golf community, it appears that there was something else that topped the list of bizarre moments for the golfer.

The English professional was spotted in an interview after the final round of the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open divulging the same. She recalled how a fan tried to ‘pick her up’ with a smooth move. “Someone said ‘I’ve dropped something’,” said Hull before revealing how he handed his phone number on a piece of paper while mentioning, “Here’s my number, text me so we can figure out where I’m taking you for dinner tonight.” While the 28-year-old did confess how she never texted him in an obvious manner of sorts, the experience truly did seem to surprise her quite a bit seeing as how the pro recounted it during the press conference.

The professional, meanwhile, recollected the bizarre experience with the male fan only after she divulged what happened with the cigarette. “It’s actually quite funny,” said Hull before continuing, “I was walking to the range, had my hands full, someone asked me for an autograph,” while alluding to the epic moment that went viral on the internet. The athlete didn’t deny the spectator her signature as she did so while sporting the cig in her mouth; “Just had my cigarette in my mouth and signed it and it’s gone viral.”

It looks like her baddie moment has made her much popular on and off the golf course seeing as how she was even asked out for dinner during the prestigious event where she finished T19. The athlete placed herself in the position tied with four other professionals including Carlota Ciganda, Jenny Shin, Chisato Iwai, and Yan Liu with a score of 6-over par overall. She did so while carding a total of 8 birdies, 13 bogeys, and a double bogey, the last of which came on Thursday at the infamous par-3, 12th which had earlier turned villain for Nelly Korda.

While many did not agree with her smoking, be it on or off the golf course, the recent divulgence did not, however, have the same effect. Many in the community went ahead to sympathize with the ardent fan while others couldn’t help but exude respect for the person who made the move despite having very low chances of success.

The majority of the time, the fans attend the event, witness great golf being played, cheer for their favorite athletes, and leave the course. Some, meanwhile, take it a step further and try to interact with the professionals. While some like the recent example are fun, there are instances where it gets irksome for the professionals. Nicole Larsen, of Denmark, once recounted how the crowd groans when they miss a short putt which she dubs the “worst.”

Compared to that, the move made by the fan was worthy of respect from many as they responded; “Respect the shot.” Another follower went ahead to point out how the golfer, despite not messaging him, remembered him; “But she’s thinking about him. Legend.”

The golfer did turn many heads during the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open with her ‘baddie’ moment. But, she was already known to have been using a vape as she was once spotted doing the same at the 2023 edition of the LPGA Meiker Classic at the Blythefield Country Club. A user on X pointed out, albeit hilariously, “He must not have known she is a smoker,” while another even went ahead to comically mention how she didn’t text them back, dubbing himself the fan who made the move; “She never texted me.”

The golf world was hit with a shocker when Rory McIlroy confirmed his divorce from his wife of 7 years, Erica Stoll. He filed for separation just a couple of days before the start of the 2024 PGA Championship. Funnily enough, a follower couldn’t help but bring his name into the fray while asking, “Was the guy that put his number on the slip of paper Rory McIlroy?”

Sure enough, it appears the community along with Charley Hull took joy and found fun in the recent short yet comical experience that she faced. What did you think of the whole incident? Do you think he deserved a text back?
