In the initial few months of 2023, World No. 22 Jennifer Kupcho saw more disappointments than successes in tournaments. These included a missed cut at the Chevron Championship, a major title that she had nabbed last year. Another missed cut at the JM Eagle LA Championship soon followed suit for the golfer, dismaying many! More recently, however, the LPGA star has had a resurgence of sorts.
So, will the 3-time LPGA Tour winner be competing for a second major title in the coming days? One of the qualifying criteria for the major states that “professionals who have won an individual Official LPGA Tournament in the previous two calendar years” are exempt to play. This makes the 2022 Chevron Championship winner eligible to compete. Moreover, the golfer has also been named in the 156-players field for the upcoming major.
Earlier this month, the major winner was in smashing form at the inaugural Mizuho Americas Open, losing to Rose Zhang by an inch. Currently, she is competing at the Meijer LPGA Classic, where she is one of the top contenders for the trophy after an impressive first-round 66.

The Women’s PGA Championship, operated by the PGA of America, will be held at the iconic Baltusrol Golf Club from June 22-25. The newly-restored Lower Course at the golf club will serve as the turf for the major. The upcoming event will mark the event’s 69th edition, making it the second-oldest major in women’s golf.
A few days ago, the 156-player field list was also announced, with one place reserved for the winner of the ongoing Meijer LPGA Classic. Last year, South Korea’s In Gee Chun won the title after edging past LPGA’s Lexi Thompson and Minjee Lee. For her win, Chun had taken home an incredible $1,350,000 in earnings. Meanwhile, both Lee and Thompson settled for paychecks of $718,827 each.
