After withdrawing from the LPGA Tour’s season opener at Hilton Grand Vacations, Angel Yin is finally back in action! The one-time LPGA Tour winner has been playing at the T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas. After playing in the CME Group Tour Championship last year, this was Yin’s first event since then. In the meantime, the 24-year-old was recovering from an injury she sustained after her maiden win.

At the Shadow Creek GC, Yin has taken the lead after scoring 4 under 68 in round two. Yin is back in contention for the first time after winning the Buick Invitational. The Vagan course is known to be challenging, which leads to the main question: Will she be able to conquer Shadow Creek with her ongoing injury struggle?

At the post-match press conference in Las Vegas, Angel Yin was asked if she could handle the pressure and challenges that Shadow Creek presents after suffering from the injury. Though her position on the leaderboard speaks for itself, Yin affirmed, Yeah, I’m just happy to play.” The one-time LPGA Tour winner explained that she will be able to take as much rest as she wants after the T-Mobile Match Play as there are no events scheduled in her golfing calendar.

It looks like, rather than threatening her injury, more rounds have turned out to be beneficial for the young golfer. Yin expanded on the status of her gameplay and detailed that playing this week in Nevada will help her assess her game better. She explained, “Every single round I play I get to improve more. My range of motion Rankings gets more and more incrementally every day, so the more I play the better for me.”

Moreover, Yin also shares her post-match play plans. Regardless of the result, Yin will take two weeks off to prepare for the first women’s major, the Chevron Championship. The 24-year-old shared, “When I go home I’m going to play anyway because I need to prep for two weeks from now, for Chevron.” Things may work for Yin at Shadow Creek if she follows the same through the four more rounds remaining at the T-Mobile Match Play.

So Yin’s injury hasn’t caused any trouble in her gameplay at the event. The cause behind Yin’s ankle fracture was not made known. Before the event, she was caught speaking at the AJGA event with a cast over her left foot. However, Yin came forward and shared what actually transpired that resulted in her sustaining the injury and how it got bigger than she expected.

A month after earning the first silverware of her career on the LPGA Tour, Angel Yin was enjoying a nice Thanksgiving dinner with her family. However, a week later, things suddenly took an unfortunate turn, which resulted in her being in a wheelchair. She recounted the incident at the presser, “I got really lucky. I broke it the week after Thanksgiving, so it was the last few days of November.”

However, to Yin, the injury was not as aggravating. At that time, she thought, “I have so much time,” to play in the season-ending championship and when the next season starts. Then she traveled to Austria and things didn’t go well there. Yin narrated, “The doctor there wanted to operate on it and I was like, I don’t want to operate on it. He gave me an air cast. Without your doctor like in America next to you, you don’t really know the directions.”
