Ruoning Yin faced a year without any wins until the 2024 Dow Championship at Midland Country Club. She and her teammate, Atthaya Thitikul, emerged victorious at the event, outperforming the competition. However, their success was overshadowed by Yin’s wrist injury.
The golfer was spotted in an interview talking about the same post her team’s win at the LPGA Tour’s lone official team event. She mentioned she would miss the upcoming Evian Championship due to her wrist issue. When asked about her wrist’s condition, she responded, “Honestly, I would say 60 percent. I mean, I can play, but the difference is just, play with the pain or play without the pain.”

Despite her desire to compete in the major championship starting on July 11th, she recognized the need to rest to ensure her fitness for future events, especially the Paris Games.“I really, really, really wanted to play Evian, but for my body, I think it’s a good decision that I have a break,” – she said.

The question arises: When will Yin compete next? The answer is clear, as she has secured a spot on the Chinese National team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. “My next tournament will be Olympics. We’ll see you in Paris,” said the golfer much before she indicated her desire to take a break; “Like give it a little bit of time to heal and prepare for the Olympics.” However, if her injury doesn’t fully heal, she might have to withdraw from the event.
Yin must take great care of herself in the coming month, as she and Xiyu Lin are the only members of the Chinese team. She hopes to replicate her recent success and carry her momentum into the quadrennial games, aiming for victory just as she did at the Dow Championship.

The team dominated the scorecard with a total score of 22-under 258, achieved with rounds of 64-66-66-62 over the four days of play. Both Yin and Thitikul were visibly excited about their victory. Thitikul emphasized the team effort, saying, “I knew that it’s not for me, but it’s for both of us,” she said, “So, just like, in my mind, I want to make it. I want to make it so bad. And, yeah, I just make it for us.”
Yin shared a similar sentiment, recounting a conversation with her mother: “I said to my Mom yesterday, I felt like this is the best week I’ve ever experienced because time flies when you’re having fun and you’re around good people.” The 21-year-old athlete hopes to enjoy her time at the Paris Games and achieve top form. Fingers crossed for the three-time LPGA Tour champion!
