In the morning foursomes on Friday, the Solheim Cup saw a historic twist. In their home conditions, the Europeans appeared to be in the driver’s seat but the Americans stunned them. Yes, saying that won’t be an exaggeration.
While many fans were worried about Lexi Thompson playing first in the morning and the English crowd lowering the morale of the American players, the players just focused on their game. And Stacy Lewis’ team did something quite extraordinary.

All hail the Captain!
A lot of credit for this historic feat goes to the captain, Stacy Lewis. And not it’s not us being cliched. She did outshine herself in preparing the extraordinary players for a splendid showdown on foreign soil. Her strategic pairing came through, so much so that even England’s favorite Charley Hull, in the company of Emily Pedersen, came a cropper against Ally Ewing and Cheyenne Knight.
Golfweek’s Adam Woodard took to Twitter and explained how this is a massive first for the Americans. The Americans never before won foursomes 4-0, despite having won the event 10 times.

Entering the week the U.S. was 49-59-17 in foursomes over the last 17 editions of the Solheim Cup.
They just swept the morning foursomes session, 4-0, for the first time in the event's history (Americans swept Saturday fourball in 2017).

The pairing of Ewing and Cheyenne Knight opened the account for their team. And Lexi Thompson paired with Megan Khang followed the dance to bag another point for their country. As if participating in a relay race where one player hands over the baton to another, Danielle Kang and Andrea Lee then took their cues and made it 3-0 for the visitors.
