Nelly Korda is arguably one of the best golfers on the LPGA Tour. However, this season has not been particularly kind to the 25-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist. She has soared to the second rank of best golfers in the LPGA and means to keep that title or advance to the first position.

Ever since early 2022, when her surgery on a blood clot that had made a home in her left arm, the American golfer returned to the field with flair. However, this season she missed the title in two out of the three previous major tournaments and most of the regular season events. Now, at the Evian Championship, can she reclaim her position?

The prolific golfer didn’t have a spectacular start at the fourth Major event this season. She finished round 1 with 1-under 72 and made the cut on Friday with 2-over par. However, after making it to the top 70 to compete on moving day, Korda appeared inspired, especially since she pulled off the feat on her birthday yesterday.

On Saturday, the 8-time LPGA winner had the best round of her life. She scored a 7-under 64 without a single bogey and achieved her lowest score so far. According to Golf Channel, she said, “It was super nice to see all the hard work kind of pay off today.” As terrific as the accomplishment was for her at a personal level, Korda’s total score stands at 6-under par after 54 holes with 18 to go.

Opening up about her experience since her surgery, Korda shared how crazy the whole thing is. She said, “It’s like one day you’re just like autoing top-10s and then the next day you don’t know how to make a cut, make a putt. So you can have it and then you can lose it really fast.”  She also admitted that it is the ups and downs that make the game that much more interesting to her. After all, the Former World no. 1 grew up in a family of athletes.

While the other LPGA contenders finished their rounds, Nelly Korda dropped to T5 on the leaderboard after round 3. She still has hope to make it to the top of the leaderboard.

Korda has blown hot and cold this season

Since her return post-surgery, Nelly Korda hasn’t had that many wins. She finished in T3 of the Chevron Championship, missed the cut at the Women’s PGA Championship, and trickled down to T64 at the US Women’s Open.

She did achieve the individual accolade at the Aramco Team Series with an awe-inspiring performance and so far at the Amundi Evian Championship, things are looking up for the golf pro. However, as she herself pointed out the next 18 holes will determine her fate in France. There is still a chance of her pulling through to the top position with 5 shots behind Celine Boutier who is having a spectacular round in her home country.
