The final day of the prestigious Solheim Cup is here. The women professionals have the chance to showcase their splendid golfing skills in singles format today. Twelve players from each team will face each other, aiming for national glory. Amid this, Lexi Thompson has a different hurdle to cross.

Team USA clean sweeped Europe in the first foursomes on Day 1, and the latter recovered during the afternoon fourballs. Saturday morning maintained America’s lead, but the afternoon led to a drought. However, the singles will have no excuse, and 12 players will vie for the ultimate crown today!

A painful saga: Lexi Thompson and slow-play

LPGA pro Lexi Thompson was ahead with a two-shot lead at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship when she was fined $2,000 for slow play. Apart from that, she lost the title, and a gloomy regret of all the missed putts also engulfed her.

Solheim Cup spectators have also expressed a similar concern and hope to avoid slow play on Sunday. One even took to Twitter to cite the problem during the Saturday morning foursomes. “…this morning at the Solheim Cup. 2.5 hours to play the front 9 in foursomes is snails pace.”

Perhaps Lexi Thompson can answer their question about what can be done to improve at slow play if she manages to avoid that on the final day at Finca Cortesin. Her form was problematic before her gameplay in Spain, but she has recovered from that with twin victories in foursomes. But on the final day, she’ll be up against the European tigress.

America’s lead on Day 1 hit the European team hard, but one of the players took it under her chin. Denmark’s Emily Pedersen recovered during the afternoon fourballs on Friday and carded the only second hole-in-one at the Solheim Cup.

Pedersen is the team’s lowest rank golfer, but her golf seems to be doing wonders for Team Europe. Captain Suzann Pettersen certainly knows what she is doing.

The Solheim Cup single between Lexi Thompson and Emily Pedersen will be a nail-biting scenario. Both players have much to prove since they got the chance to play in Spain. While Pedersen is ranked 122 and still made the captain’s pick, Lexi Thompson has struggled with a slum all year.

However, both of them showed immense commitment to their form. Thompson has gone 2-1-0 in her three matches, and Pedersen played every game, running with a 2-1-1 scoreline. What if it all came down to this match? Who will you cheer for? And are you worried about Lexi Thompson’s slow play? Let us know in the comments.
