Sports is a male-dominated industry. But with time, things are changing. If we narrow down to the golf world, women golfers are as skilled, if not more, as men. However, only a few have reached that point of understanding. And recently, Charley Hull was on the receiving end when a similar conversation prompted.

The Ascendant LPGA Benefitting Volunteers of America is a Texas-based event. It commences in the first week of October. Recently, along with the defending champion, Hull, many others appeared there for a press conference. And a sexist debate rose to the surface.

It is common for an average spectator to diminish the efforts of athletes. Especially women athletes. A recent dialogue on Twitter between Charley Hull and an amateur golfer led to a series of sexist remarks. It started when the amateur claimed that if he played on the LPGA tour, he would sit at the top of it. And Hull, in a savage reply, challenged him to a game.

During the interview in Texas, the reporters asked the English golfer the difference between a professional and an amateur. Charley Hull recalled what happened and how people often dismiss women’s golf.

Reflecting on the skills of the LPGA pros, Hull spoke. “Especially when they think of us girls, like being like an average golfer, and we’re really not. We’ve got so much skill. I think they’re quite surprised when they come and watch us in real life. I play with a lot of my guy friends over here, men pros, some are on the European Tour and some are on the Challenge Tour. And, like, I go out and play off the same tees as them and we have good games and I beat them a lot of times. So, I don’t know. I feel like that guy needs to wake up a bit.”

It is sad that some people still stick to this kind of mentality at a time women earn accolades equal to their male counterparts. Women’s golf even saw a rise in spectators this year. And the golfers have been at the best of their game. More so, even the golf world is trying to bridge the gap between men and women and welcoming back the re-imagined Grant Thornton Invitational. However, the amateur golfer is away from these updates about the golf community!

What did the amateur golfer say?

Lou Stagner, a golf coach, uploaded a post revealing that a self-proclaimed handicap 3 man is sure that he can make every cut on the LPGA tour and sit in the top 20. When Charley Hull, as a matter of chance, found the post, she took it up a notch because of its bizarre nature.

She challenged the amateur golfer to a game where she would play off the white tees and have him drive from the red tees. But Lou Stagner responded to Charley Hull before the golfer could and predicted that the latter would still finish in the last position.
