With a rough year on the books, Brooke Henderson is currently ranked No. 12 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. But this has not stopped her from dreaming big this time around as the Canadian golfer gears up to play in the championship. She is very determined to defend her title this time against the many talented players taking part in the tournament.

In the recent presser, the 25-year-old opened up about her excitement at the prospect of winning the tournament for a second time. “Yeah, it’s really exciting to have the opportunity to be the first to win back-to-back. I think that’s definitely the dream and the goal this week coming in,” said the golfer when asked what it would mean for her to defend her title this year, making it a consecutive win in the major.

The Amundi Evian Championship has not seen a player win the title consecutively for two years. While the tournament saw Laura Davies win it straight for two years continuously while it was just an LET event in the years 1996 and 1997, the championship has not seen such a feat since it was declared a major. The Canadian professional golfer would be itching to follow in Tiger Woods‘ footsteps as she aims to pull off this amazing feat. The legend had previously won a total of four back-to-back majors in his career.

Henderson’s previous attempts at the Evian Championship

The golfer started competing in the championship in 2015. While she has finished in the top 10 a total of three times, she has won it just once in 2022, finishing with a total score of 17-under-par 267. She had previously finished at T9 with a score of 277 (-7) in 2016 and settled for a T10 finish in 2018 at 8-under par.

Henderson has had a bumpy year of sorts in 2023, with a lone win coming off the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, where she finished with a score of 16-under-par 272. However, she’s looking to double that and retain her title. “Hopefully just start out Thursday, Friday with some solid rounds and see if I can put myself in contention to try to do it again,” she stated.
