With the 2023 Amundi Evian Championship just around the corner, the hype for the event is reaching an all-time high. The fourth major tournament of the season is set to take place from July 27-30th at the Evian Resort Golf Club. Co-sanctioned by LPGA and LET, it is the only major tournament in continental Europe and is a highly anticipated one at that. The tournament will see a select group of 132 players battling it out on the golf course. But the question that every golf fan will be curious about is whether Minjee lee will be taking part in the year’s fourth major.
Does Minjee Lee qualify for the 2023 Amundi Evian Championship?
While Minjee Lee had won two majors at the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open and the 2021 Evian Championship, the Australian pro golfer has had a rough year in 2023. She bagged two top 10 finishes in the Greater Toledo LPGA Classic and the Cognizant Founders Cup, where her best finish of the year came at T2 with a score of 13-under-par 275.

In the previous majors, Lee finished T41 at the Chevron Championship settling for 291 (+3), T20 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with a score of 1-under-par 283, and T13 at the U.S. Women’s Open finishing at 292 (+4).

But will the Australian golfer be able to play at the Amundi Evian Championship? The answer is yes. She has earned a spot on the list of players eligible to compete for the major.

Although the event is something that every female golfer wishes to participate in, only a select few will be able to do so. The 27-year-old Australian golfer has qualified to take part in the championship due to her winning the championship in 2021 and currently standing at the 7th rank in the Rolex Rankings. The field of 132 players in the tournament showcases much talent which further substantiates what’s in store for us in the upcoming event. Moreover, the winner gets to take home a prize money of $1 million out of the total $6.5 million prize purse.
Lee’s previous attempts at the Championship
The pro golfer first played the event in 2014, after which she has been trying to win the event a total of eight times. While failing to make the cut in the 2020 edition of the event, she emerged successful in the 2021 Amundi Evian Championship with a score of 18-under-par 266. In 2022, she finished at T43 with settling for 281 (-3).
