Amid a Nail-biting $3.25M Race, a Struggling Charley Hull Receives an Unexpected Message From Her Ex-Rival

Charley Hull has had a bittersweet season this year. She came close to winning several times, but she missed out on each opportunity by a thread. Four times this year, she finished tournaments as a runner-up, and two of those were major championships. 

Now, one of the rivals that stepped over her and won a major championship recently spoke about Hull. With her struggling to stand at the Annika after two rounds, the unexpected praise might come as a surprise to the British golfer. Who is that LPGA Tour pro that mentioned Charley Hull on a positive note?

Charley Hull receives a compliment from her ex-rival

These two women went head-to-head in the British Open, and the AIG Women’s Open earlier this year. They also battled against each other in the Solheim Cup. We are talking about Charley Hull and her American contemporary Lilia Vu. 

Lilia Vu, in her recent press conference at the Annika, spoke about Charley Hull. The question focused on Vu’s most memorable moment of this year. She mentioned the final hole of ‘The Open’ where Charley Hull made the magical putt, followed by Vu’s final putt. In her own words, “her sinking that long putt on 18 and then me somehow sinking that putt too was just crazy. Felt like a movie.” 

It makes because, in the previous question she answered, Vu explained how a difficult golf course helps her stay focused on the game. She claimed that each hole will be difficult and it will narrow down her thoughts to that particular hole. Perhaps the last hole in the Open was one such difficult endeavor. 

Looking back at the Open, Lilia Vu had a comfortable lead over the runner-up Charley Hull. Despite the upper hand, Vu had at the moment, she was focused on appreciating the long putt that Hull made. It must have been one amazing putt. 

Now, let’s look at how the two women are faring at the Annika Championship currently in progress.

Lilia Vu currently holds a shared tenth position at the tournament, with a 7-under score. The leader of the scoreboard Emily Pedersen enjoys a lead of 5 strokes against Vu’s 7-under score. With two rounds left, nothing is written on stone yet though.

Coming to Charley Hull, she stands at the 21st position, sharing it with nine others, including Nelly Korda. Hull holds a score of 5-under, standing seven strokes behind the table leader, and 2-strokes behind Vu. With two rounds to go, it’s probably too early to judge who will go home with the title. As for the Vu-Hull rivalry, the lead is even lesser, and in the game of golf never say never, it’s possible for the positions to change anytime on the golfing greens.
