The Solheim Cup is one of the most anticipated tournaments in the golf world. The same is the case for the players as well since they take it as an honor to represent their country in the most prestigious event. Rose Zhang, the tour’s latest prodigy, has managed to revel in that glory in her first appearance at the biennial event.
The 20-year-old has often been compared to the legend of the game, Tiger Woods, and for good reason. But what caught the attention of the golf community recently was her astonishing confession regarding her career ahead of the patriotic showdown, something which she didn’t “even think would be possible” on her own!

The American golfer has managed to pilot her career toward a particular path all the while being contrasted with the GOAT. Moreover, reaching the Solheim Cup at a young age is not an easy feat as it would set her up on stage with and against the top golfers in the LPGA Tour and LET. And even she was surprised at the milestone she achieved in her life as the professional took to an interview to say the same.
In the press conference ahead of the biennial event, the 1X LPGA Tour champ mentioned how she did not “even think would be possible” to get to the esteemed event. Alluding to her win at the 2023 Mizuhos American Open, Zhang said, “It was only with the intentions of starting off my career and playing the best I could, trying to make the cut” all the while being grateful for the victory and experiences that followed.
Adding to her response, the golfer confessed how she did not put the Solheim Cup as one of her goals this year. Nevertheless, she said, ” I’m just super blessed to be alongside players that I’ve grown up watching and playing alongside them representing the red, white, and blue” while expressing her excitement for the same.
It did not come as a surprise for a lot of people when a young prodigy such as the American golfer would qualify for the US team in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the game of golf. Well, such expectations were set in place with the amazing performance that the to-be-legend put up in her pro and amateur careers, earning her a Woods comparison.
Zhang’s sensational performance and the Woods feat
Zhang managed to emerge victorious at the Mizuho Americas Open with a score of 9-under 279 earning a total of $412,500 from the $2.75 million prize purse. Her first LPGA Tour victory came off in the playoff hole against Jennifer Kupcho as both of them tied for first place after the fourth round.
Although the win propelled her to a spot on the US team in the Solheim Cup, she had already captivated the hearts of many in the golf community through a sensational Amateur career.

At the age of 19, the LPGA phenom broke the legend’s record for the best competition score in NCAA history. Scoring 64, 68, and 65 in the 54-hole event, the current pro golfer finished with a total of 19 under par to record a massive three-stroke clear of the previous holder.
The win marked her 11th victory in her nineteenth start, the fastest to the feat breaking Woods’ record; the same amount of wins accumulated from 26 starts.
