During her recent visit to New York City, Nelly Korda, joined by her teammate Lilia Vu and captain Stacy Lewis, took some much-needed downtime before their upcoming competition. They also made a special appearance on the Today Show, wherein the LPGA star’s main talking point was her golf idol, Tiger Woods!

Nelly enthusiastically recounted her encounter with golf legend Tiger Woods at the 2021 PNC Championship in a segment of their interview that @si.golf shared on Instagram. She described approaching Woods despite her naturally shy personality and requesting a photograph. Nelly fondly recalled Woods’ kindness during the encounter and humorously admitted, “He was so nice. I think I turned as red as a tomato.”

She went on to express how the golf great had been a constant source of inspiration for both her and her sister, Jessica Korda, during their upbringing. “We were like Tiger’s kids, he’s the one that kind of inspired us,” she said talking about their childhood. “Being a professional golfer, it made me appreciate his consistency and his play so much at such a high level that to this day I still look up to him so much.”

Despite both Nelly Korda and Tiger Woods being prominent figures in the golfing world, the LPGA star has never hesitated to express her admiration for Woods, consistently referring to him as her role model. Similarly, the 15-time major winner himself has expressed his awe for her talent!
