It was only last week that the much-heralded Solheim Cup was taking place at Finca Cortesin, Spain. Team USA’s golden girl, Lexi Thompson, contributed hugely to keeping the game going against Europe. Thompson even won three out of the four matches she participated in. Unfortunately, her efforts proved futile, as the international side went on to retain the trophy.

Lexi Thompson displays magnanimity notwithstanding her Solheim Cup loss

This year’s Solheim Cup meant a do-or-die situation for Team USA. Given that, it would have meant life to the Americans to put an end to their consecutive drought. But alas, the Americans left Spain with dismay and defeat, despite their best show on the greens!

Even though the scores were tied 14-14, Team Europe retained the trophy thanks to the age-old rule. Despite her shaky year in 2023, throughout the three days of the international face-off, Thompson played a vital role in keeping the American dream alive until the very end. And even though, after those massive efforts, the fact that she walked away trophyless hasn’t dampened her spirits!

In the interview, ahead of this week’s event, Thompson was asked about her last week. The 28-year-old answered, “Just being around my teammates and playing under my captain, Stacy Lewis, and my assistant captains, and just overall playing for my country. It’s the highest honor, and to be able to pull off some good shots and make some putts for my country, there is absolutely no better feeling.”

Thompson won both the foursome matches she played in on Friday and Saturday for Team USA. On Sunday, she even won her singles match against Emily Kristen Pedersen, beating her 2 & 1. Despite not winning, she considers it an honor to have represented her country on an international level.

The LPGA star seems at peace with what she put out at the Solheim Cup, and her calmness and maturity in looking at the silver lining are now reflecting in her game at Pinnacle Country Club too!

The tournament just started with its first round. And Thompson has displayed an outstanding performance here as well. In the opening round, she carded seven successful birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 12, 15, 16, and 18. Her gameplay even faltered a bit on hole 5, where she conceded a bogey. But overall, the golfer has been doing great, ending the round at 6-under par.
