In the past few weeks, the golf world has been blessed with no cheating accusations to talk about at all. Unfortunately, a scandal has just popped up. A golfer took to her Instagram and spoke about a fellow player’s attempt to cheat.
The whistleblower apparently had other witnesses to support her claim, as per her Instagram stories. The Epson Tour player also shared messages from people who praised her for her bold act. But here’s the catch – she got disqualified the moment she signed her card!

Gabby Lemieux, the first Native American golfer to play in the US Women’s Open, plays on the Epson Tour. She recently shared an incident involving a cheating incident, where she had accused a fellow golfer of having intentionally misplaced the ball before her next shot.
Her statement explained that she saw this player placing the ball in a different position than it was. Lemieux added that because of this distraction, she ended up signing the wrong scorecard, which resulted in her own disqualification.
“If you wanna play professional golf, even it is half an inch off…it is cheating,” Lemieux mentioned in her statement. She proudly exclaimed that she was happy that she pointed out the cheating, and was not worried about the loss she sustained. “I did my part to save the field from a cheater. Protecting the field cost me my own way. Sometimes that is just how it goes.”

Following this, she posted a series of DMs she received in support of her bold move. The comments praised her sincerity in the sport and her ethics. She had expressed her love and gratitude to those who expressed their validation.
In addition, she shared a couple of messages that criticized her actions. The messages accused her of ruining a girl’s life and damaging her reputation. One of the messages even questioned Lemieux’s understanding of the act. How did Lemieux respond to these messages?

Responding to the question about ruining a girl’s life, Lemieux claimed that it was not the case. She reiterated how the girl unfortunately made a mistake. Lemieux explained how her playing partners and their caddies noticed it too.
The other message spoke about how the girl’s family and friends must find this shocking. The message argued how the girl might have made an honest mistake, and the ball might just have rolled off. It went on to say that Lemieux could have pointed out the difference in position to the girl, and given her a chance to show maybe she wasn’t cheating. In this case, the girl might have corrected her mistake. “Otherwise, you just look like a poor loser who is lacking grace.”
Lemieux responded to this message by recalling how it was not her word against the girl’s word. She further acknowledged the shock that her family might experience. However, she strongly emphasized that moving the ball is not within the rules. She added that if she were a poor loser this wouldn’t be her first time reporting a rules violation during a tournament.
