The golf world has seen opposing viewpoints on the ‘tie-breaker’ question, especially, after the Solheim Cup. The Solheim Cup ended in a tie of 14-14, and as per tradition, Europe ended up retaining the prestigious Cup. While some people support the ending of the famous event, others seem to disagree.
Rory McIlroy finds himself in the former category as he is one to support the traditional way of breaking ties. However, the famous Northern Irish professional golfer’s expression of opinion unintentionally clashed with Jessica Korda’s. Korda seemed to disagree with the ongoing approach. The LPGA professional is not alone in her belief, Stacy Lewis recently added herself to the list of people demanding reform in the system.
Stacy Lewis said, “At the time I was kind of torn on it, of what should you do…We put so much work into this, so much time and so much energy, to end in a tie it’s like a terrible finish. Just a blah finish. I do think there needs to be a playoff. I think the event deserves that.”
Stacy Lewis’s opinion found itself at a crossroads with Rory McIlroy’s opinion. While the latter supports the traditional method of breaking a tie, the former does not. Lewis expressed the need to formulate a new method of breaking ties. Jessica Korda also found herself on similar lines.
