The question of world ranking points for LIV golfers has been a burning topic of debate for a while now. Interestingly, an exemption in the system has given LIV golfers a chance to jump to world-ranking points.

One such LIV pro who has made full use of this provision is Louis Oosthuizen. The 41-year-old recently jumped a significant number of spots on the OWGR ranking. Here’s the exact number of spots Oosthuizen earned due to his calculated move!

It is well known that despite LIV Golf’s extravagance, its players cannot avail of OWGR world ranking points by playing in the Saudi-backed league. However, the sponsors’ exemption allows some of these players to make use of it and still play at some DP World Tour events.

Louis Oosthuizen has smartly made use of this exemption and has recently registered his first-ever back-to-back wins at the DP World Tour. His first win came at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, followed by his second win at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open only six days later.

This has positively impacted his previous OWGR rank of 441 and given him a boost to jump to 133rd place. This is a massive achievement, as the LIV pro has jumped around 308 spots, thanks to his back-to-back win and the sponsors’ exemption.

This is a slippery slope for LIV Golf’s opposite camp, as it has carved the way for these golfers to retain their position in the OWGR, to some extent. Even though there is still a long way for the South African professional golfer to secure exemptions for majors and be considered for playing in them, this has given hope to many other players. So, the question arises if the 41-year-old is the only LIV golfer who has made use of this provision.

Is Oosthuizen the only golfer making use of the sponsors’ exemption?

No, Oosthuizen is not the only LIV golfer to have made use of this provision and witnessed a jump in their OWGR ranking. Dean Burmester has also recently been in the news for similar reasons. His wins at the Joburg Open and the South African Open have helped him jump from the 154th spot to the 75th spot in the OWGR.

Apart from Burmester, Joaquin Niemann’s win at the Australian Open has given him a boost from 87th place to 62nd position on OWGR. Only time will tell if more LIV pros will make use of the sponsors’ exemption in the future or not. Until then, this Christmas will surely be full of joyful celebrations for the Oosthuizen family.
