The 2024 PGA Tour begins with The Sentry at Hawaii’s Plantation Course. Jon Rahm‘s move to LIV Golf opened the stage for stars like Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, and Jordan Spieth. The star-studded field will not witness the Tour loyalists, Rory McIlroy and Justin  Thomas this year. But, the players who are competing, are very excited to play at the Hawaiian course and soak in the beauty of it.

America’s one of the favorite golfers has set the scene for the year’s first victory. Jordan Spieth, eyeing success, shares insights into the course’s challenges and joys, turning the Plantation Course into a haven where beauty and excitement blend, creating anticipation for golf enthusiasts.

PGA Tour Data Analyst Ron Klos recently shared an enlightening tweet from Jordan Spieth, providing an exclusive peek into the captivating Plantation Course at Kapalua, where the 2015 FedEx Cup champion finished 13th in his last outing at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The 30-year-old’s description goes beyond a mere golf course; he unveils it as a place of both challenge and enjoyment, affirming, “It’s a fun course to play.” Each hole, according to an American professional golfer, unfolds with “some of the most amazing views we get all year,” painting a picture of a golfer’s paradise.

However, the pro golfer candidly acknowledges, “There’s lots of slope, Bermuda grass,” and strategic shot-making is required due to coastal winds. The former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking continues to express the need to “hit putts aggressively and play a significant amount of break.” This adds depth to the allure of the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The course sprawls across the slopes of the West Maui Mountains, providing panoramic ocean views. Its 7,596-yard par 73 layout, challenging for pros, maintains playability with wide fairways and generous greens. The aggressive slope of the 18th fairway amplifies the experience, reminiscent of professional drives.

Along with the PGAT pro, there would be 58 golfers as well, who would be witnessing the magic of Maui in just some hours. But, at the same time, there are some other notable golfers as well, who sadly will not be teeing it up this weekend at the scenic course.

Notable absences at the 2024 Sentry

Reigning champion Jon Rahm, triumphant at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, won’t be defending his title in 2024. Rahm’s commitment to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit means he’ll miss PGA Tour events, including the Sentry. Instead, the Spanish golfer is set to commence his new year with the LIV Golf Mayakoba tournament in February.

Another notable absentee is Will Zalatoris, who secured a T11 position in the 2023 tournament. Battling a back injury, the American golfer had limited appearances in 2023, culminating in a last-place finish at the Hero World Challenge. His physical challenges impact his eligibility for the 2024 Sentry.

Aaron Wise, despite a T18 finish in the 2023 tournament, will also miss the 2024 competition. His absence results from skipping the Tour Championship, rendering him ineligible for the upcoming Champions Tournament.
