The bad boy of golf, John Daly, was infamous for his gambling and alcohol addiction. But now he is out of the addiction phase and focusing on golf and battling cancer. However, he lost big bucks in the casino during his bad habit phase. But that wasn’t it. He lost something more valuable than money.

In 2013, Daly appeared on a talk show, and ‘Golf News Central re-uploaded the video on YouTube in 2020. There talked about the former professional golfer David Feherty, now a golf broadcaster, among other things. However, the highlight was the losses the Claret Jug winner incurred after quitting alcohol. What did he lose, and was it dear to him?

John Daly revealed his non-materialistic losses
We term friendship as one of the most important things a human can earn. And when you are fun and outgoing, like Daly, it is obvious to land many people on your friend list. But every relationship’s base is the typical qualities of the people in the circle. And Daly’s group termed alcohol as one of them. In the full interview, the senior golfer revealed what he lost when he gave up drinking.

The show’s host stated, “you know, a lot of people, when they quit doing something like that, they lose a lot of friends.” Daly immediately agreed and said, “I’ve lost a million friends when I quit drinking.” However, he clarified that they were not really friends for him. The PGA Tour pro explained their friendship: “no because I was the one I was buying it. I was always one, hey here, take a couple of grand, keep playing, boys. Let’s go. I’m ready.”

He further explained that times had changed now. Those friends don’t exist in his life. However, he put them under a specific friend list. Daly said, “and now that, that doesn’t happen. Lost a lot of friends. So-called friends.” Even though he lost his drinking buddies, the pro golfer has a lot of love for his genuine fans, which matters to him more. Winning fans’ hearts is much more precious than losing so-called friends.
After finishing second in the PNC Championship with his son last year, he underwent knee surgery that was due. Now he is in a recovery phase and already slaying his fans with his singing skills.
