How did Gary Woodland's heartbreaking loss shape his perspective on life and career?

Four-time PGA Tour Championship winner Gary Woodland has had a great career. At the age of 40, he must be pleased with the fact that he left a mark on the sport with some Major wins. While the 2019 U.S. Open win might be the highlight of his career, he also lives a much larger life outside of golf.

Gary Woodland is a big-time family man. He, his wife Gabby, and his children make a beautiful picture-esque family that anyone could fall in love with. He often shares glimpses of his family life on social media and it is always received with a lot of love and blessings.

But things were not always the same for the pro. About 7 and a half years ago, Gary Woodland and Gabby Granado went through one of the most heartbreaking incidents of their lives. Let’s take a closer look at what happened back then.

What happened in 2017 for Gary Woodland?

Before the incident, Gary Woodland and his wife were going through a beautiful phase in their life. Apart from Woodland’s on-course exploits, Gabby was also pregnant. The couple were excited to grow their family as they were expecting twins.

On March 29th, 2017, Gary Woodland shared a saddening post on his X account. He informed everyone that he had withdrawn from the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He further added that Gabby had faced some complications during her pregnancy. Woodland said, “Gabby and I have since had to cope with the heartbreaking loss of one of the babies.

However, that is not where it ended. Gabby and the second baby also seemed to be at risk as per his post. Woodland added, “The doctors will be closely monitoring the health of my wife and the other baby for the remainder of the pregnancy.” He also thanked everyone for all the support they received during this difficult period in their life.

But there seemed to be a glimmer of hope from his post. He ended the message with, “At this point in time, I plan to play the Masters next week.” While golf might not have been the priority at that time, his confirmation indicated that things were better than they were originally presented. It’s hard to determine the exact timeline of the event, we are aware that the event that he withdrew from was hosted from March 22nd to 26th. Considering Woodland’s tweet, we can assume that things got better in the next few days after he left the Texas-based open.

It was still a deeply upsetting moment for the Woodland family. But, we all know now how things turned out and their second child; i.e. Jaxson Lynn Woodland, is healthy and well. The couple ended up getting pregnant with twins again about a couple of years later. Gary, Gabby, and Jaxson welcomed two beautiful daughters to their family.
