Max Homa's humor vs. fan jabs—who's winning the banter game in sports?

Many golfers are fans of other sports. For instance, the world no. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is such a good pickleball player that a lot of his peers say he can be a professional in the field. And how can we forget Rory McIlroy and his love for Equestrians, that’s exactly the case with PGA Tour pro Max Homa. The golfer is a big MLB watcher and supports The Dodgers wholeheartedly and everyone knows being a Dodger fan is not that easy.

However, in a surprising turn of events the San Diego Padres’s season came to a close in Game 5 of the National League Division Series after losing 2-0 to the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Despite being known for late-game comebacks, the Padres’s offense game was surprisingly down which eventually led to them failing to score in their final 24 innings. Homa took it to X to express his happiness and his favorite team won the game.

“I’m happy I rooted for the Dodgers last night. I will be doing that again tomorrow”, wrote Homa. However, the fans were quick to take a jab at the player by comparing him to the losing team, “It’s like you in the Masters”, said the fan. To which Homa also clapped back by saying, “Yes I have never won a Masters and the Padres have never won a World Series but I have won a championship in San Diego”, he said well it is true. Max Homa’s Masters journey has been a wild ride! One day he’s rubbing shoulders with Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau, finishing third in 2024 – his first top-five major finish. The next, he’s struggling to find his footing, like in 2023 when he finished 43rd.

And let’s not forget those tough misses in 2020 and 2021. But here’s the thing: Max doesn’t give up. He keeps pushing, and that’s what makes his story so inspiring. With an average score of +10 and a 46th-place finish over four appearances, he’s got his work cut out for him. Still, you can’t help but root for the guy. Homa had secured victory at the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open with an impressive score of 13 under par in San Diego.

“Just once, I’d like to go on a boys’ trip where we catch up on sleep and relax as much as possible instead of pushing our bodies to the absolute limit”, read the tweet, claiming that it was written by Homa.  The post also had screenshots of Kisner and Thomas allegedly agreeing to the ‘edgy boy’s trip’. Surprisingly, Homa saw these tweets and approved of the hilarious comments by writing, “Some of the comments to this are chef’s kiss hilarious. Reading comprehension is a lost art like the mid-range jumper.”
