That being said, let’s take a look at their stats, and how the icons have performed over the years.
Is Dustin Johnson better than Phil Mickelson?
Observing the stats for their first 300 starts on the PGA Tour, one can conclude that Johnson has the upper hand. The younger has 24 wins as opposed to Mickelson’s, along with 116 top 10 finishes.

Mickelson boasts 105 top 10 finishes, along with 157 top 25s. Johnson has also earned $73.2 million from the course, while Mickelson lies at $29.7 million. Though Mickelson’s stats are impressive on their own, Johnson is leading in all categories. This does speak a lot of Johnson’s achievements, and how the 37-year-old might only get better with time.
Will Johnson have a better career?
One major difference between their careers is when the two started playing. Mickelson started in the 90s, while Johnson turned professional in 2007. The time, prize money, and events are all different, the competitiveness knowing no bounds. However, with his PGA Championship 2021 win, Mickelson announced that he is not the one to back down.
Johnson, on his end, has 24 PGA Tour wins as opposed to Mickelson’s 45. With retirement being a long way for Johnson, he might even cross Mickelson with the number of PGA Tour wins.
Furthermore, Johnson has won only two majors till now. Mickelson’s PGA Championship win at 50 has turned out to be a motivator for many, proving that there is no age to win a major event.
Having said that, one cannot deny that the closeness in numbers for Mickelson and Johnson is slightly unusual. A few similarities can certainly be spotted for now, even though Johnson might overtake Mickelson in the future.
