As the majority of the PGA Tour enjoys some downtime this week, 11 of the 12 U.S. Ryder Cup team members are probably honing their skills at home in preparation for the upcoming match against Team Europe in Rome. However, Brooks Koepka is charting a different course. He’s gearing up at Rich Harvest Farms, the venue for the 2023 LIV Golf Chicago event, which is the 12th out of 14 scheduled events for this season.

Koepka stood out as the sole LIV golfer selected for the 2023 Ryder Cup. He maintained the sixth and last direct qualifying position for the U.S. team until the final scoring event at the BMW Championship. This situation presented U.S. Captain Zach Johnson with the challenging decision of whether to incorporate an LIV player into his squad.

Though Koepka dropped to seventh due to fewer chances to accumulate points, his victory at the PGA Championship and his runner-up finish at the Masters swayed Johnson to believe he deserved a spot in the 12-man team.

On Wednesday, when asked about his presence as the only LIV player making it to the Ryder Cup this year and this being his fourth consecutive Ryder Cup, Brooks mentioned, “Yeah, I’m a pick this year, a little different. Would have liked to make it on my own. But it was close. Just happy to be on the team.”

He further added, “We went over to Rome a few — what was it, maybe a week and a half ago now. Good trip. Most of the guys were there.” Talking about the course, he added, “Got to see the golf course. It’s pretty difficult, but it will be interesting to see how they set it up.”

Koepka has also recently ventured on his new journey of fatherhood. At the recent LIV event, he secured a tie for the 38th position in a 48-man lineup, shortly after he and his wife Jena celebrated the birth of their son, Crew Koepka Sims. Speaking of fatherhood, he mentioned it has definitely changed him.
