Greg Norman has been the CEO of LIV Golf ever since its inception in 2022. However, the road has been a rather topsy-turvy one for him. The 20-time PGA Tour winner has managed to butt heads with several organizations, making claims about the league’s ascension, but when it came to the big boy’s table talks a.k.a, the merger and more, Norman was nowhere publicly involved. And now rumor has it he may not be the head of LIV either soon!
According to a new report shared by the Sports Business Journal, the breakaway league has been looking for a replacement for the Great White Shark. That being said, there is still a chance he is retained as one of the leaders. Regardless of how that turns out, however, it seems like the league will be just fine!
LIV has already grown so much in the audience in the past two years that no matter who becomes the CEO, its popularity will hardly be impacted by it. Just hours ago, LIV’r & Onions took to X and shared rather surprising statistics about the breakaway league. Apparently, despite the constant criticism for its format, players, backers, etc., LIV Golf has gained a rather huge level of popularity online.

“I saw something today that made me wonder about relative team popularity, so I did a dive into social media following. Lots of nuances and factors to consider,” they wrote talking regarding LIV’s total Twitter following. According to the stats shared, the Crushers GC led by Bryson DeChambeau has the highest number of followers on X (10.9k), followed by Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC (8.5k) and Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers (7.5k). The Stinger has the lowest number of followers, 2.9k.
Notably, the combined followers of all thirteen teams of the breakaway league account for a total of a whopping 282.1 K LIV Golf followers on the site. And what’s more surprising is that X has the least amount of fans in the league. “X is by far the least popular platform for LIV teams, but it seems to me that X is where the most anti-LIV forces were deployed. Interesting,” reported the tweet.

When it comes to Facebook, LIV has amassed 384k followers. The top three followed teams there are Bubba Watson’s RangeGoat (55K followers), Crushers GC (34K followers), and Ripper GC (19 K followers). Well, this is not all. The league has crossed expectations when it comes to Instagram and TikTok.

Is Greg Norman's potential exit a sign of LIV Golf's evolution or a step back?

LIV Golf has a whopping 1 Million followers on TikTok
While the statistics on Facebook and X may come as a shock, turns out Instagram has almost triple times the total followers on Facebook. Once again here Bryson DeChambeau’s team leads with the highest number of followers ranging to a staggering 197k, and the Martin Kaymer-led team, Cleeks GC, has the lowest, 7.5k. In total, however, LIV teams have a huge 963k following on Instagram.

As for TikTok, LIV’r & Onions’ words: “Solid numbers on TikTok, but certainly the platform with the most growth potential. This is the age demographic LIV is set on capturing,” couldn’t be truer. The platform has the highest number of breakaway league fans, ranging to 1 million. The Crushers GC again leads there too, with 108k followers on TikTok. Sadly, Lefty’s team is the one left behind here, with a mere 6.2K followers.
Nonetheless, these massive tractions the teams have amassed have shown that regardless of what happens LIV will live on. And probably only grown faster and further!
