LIV Golf’s Latest Host Suffers a Major Setback Week Ahead of their Flagship Event

LIV Golf has been bringing along chaos everywhere it has been heading since its launch. From its never-ending controversy with the PGA Tour to receiving immense criticism from fans around the world, the league has not been able to breathe fresh air. And it’s no surprise that the Saudi league is now involved in another squabble before an upcoming event!

LIV Golf stuck in a puddle over illegal cactus-cutting claims

Things have never been easy for the players in the LIV Golf league. Despite Greg Norman’s numerous attempts of making everything work for his tour, he ends up landing in new controversies every other day. And right before an upcoming tournament, a new ruckus awaits the teams at the Arizona golf course.

According to sources, the Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently investigating a private golf course in Marana, as reposted by Golfweek for allegedly cutting down two fully grown saguaro cactuses. And the reason behind the actions is to make space for hospitality tents for the soon arriving LIV Golf event.

The fuss began when a video in February resurfaced displaying a landscaping company cutting down protected saguaro cactuses on The Gallery Golf Club’s land. The clip was enough to strike outrageous reactions and conversations about the issue. However, the club defended the matter and said it was a mistake made by the landscaping company.

As per Arizona’s native plant law, landowners have complete rights to destroy or remove protected native plants from their land. But before taking action, they are required to inform the AZDA at least 20 to 60 days prior. But according to Heather Flowers, assistant director of Strategic Initiatives and Policy at the AZDA, “The AZDA did not identify records of a permit or notice of intent for The Gallery Golf Club to cut down the two saguaros, and we are currently conducting an investigation related to this action.”

Not to forget, The Gallery Golf Club might have to face a penalty of nearly $5,000. However, despite no strong actions against the club, LIV is part of the controversy without any direct involvement. The league faces no big consequences for the club’s mismanagement. But it could still be an excuse for critics to highlight the case against LIV Golf.
