Is it fair for big names to face relegation in Greg Norman's league, or is it just business?

Chances are thinning out for many LIV golf pros to secure the cards for the 2025 season. There is only one event remaining, the LIV Golf Greenbrier, before the LIV Golf Individual Championship in Chicago takes place. Prior to that, many players would have to card top finishes to avoid getting relegated from the league.

Last year, Chase Koepka, James Piot, Sihwan Kim, and Jediah Morgan bid adieu to the breakaway league. This year, six players might get relegated from LIV and will have the chance to regain LIV golf at the promotion event in December. Here are the three shocking names that may miss the 2025 LIV Golf season.

3. Mito Pereira

Last year was an incredible season for the Chilean pro, as he successfully carded six top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the LIV Golf Greenbrier. But things have certainly not worked out for Mito Pereira this year. In the past twelve LIV Golf events, Pereira has secured only one top-10 finish, which came at the LIV Golf Adelaide as he was 8th on the leaderboard.

With his declined form, the Texas Tech alum is ranked on the LIV Golf Standings at 43, a whopping drop from being ranked 8th in the 2023 season. Just another bad performance and Pereira would be at the bottom of the leaderboard, signing off from the disruptive league.

2. Harold Varner III

Have an interesting take?

Harold Varner III moved from RangeGoats GC to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC, but that was not the only change awaiting the 33-year-old in the current season. Last year, HVIII grabbed his maiden victory on LIV Golf at the Washington event. The 1-time LIV Golf winner has five more top-15 finishes and stood 7th on the LIV Golf standings. But things changed, as did his apparel.

In the 2024 season, Varner has never been in the winning circle, let alone had a top-10 finish. The best he scored so far was at LIV Golf Hong Kong three months ago. The 33-year-old had the only T15 after shooting 9 under 201. He isn’t in the drop zone after the conclusion at LIV Golf UK. However, seeing the consistently poor performance, it might not be wrong to assume that Varner may end up in the drop zone [below 48] and may have to battle for the 2025 season card at LIV Golf Promotion.

1. Bubba Watson

The 2-time Masters winner started the 2024 season with two decent finishes, as he was T21 and T16 at LIV Golf Mayakoba and Las Vegas, respectively. However, after that, Bubba Watson lost his momentum. Last season as well, the 45-year-old was struggling in the disruptive league, and in the 2024 season, things have gotten worse.

At least last year, Watson was able to be 36th on the LIV Golf Standings, but this time, he has dropped to 51st after failing to card any victories. And consistently finishing out of the top 30s. As the captain of RangeGoats GC, Watson would be exempted from relegation. However, in 2024, he relayed that he may hang his boots up if his teammates asked. He said, “I told my team if they don’t think I am good enough to play, they can kick me out, and we will put another good golfer in my place. I am going to play until they kick me out.”

There are still two events remaining for the LIV Golf 2024 standings to lock up; before that, these three players would have to put in blood, sweat, and tears so they could continue to play on LIV Golf in the 2025 season.
