Who is the PGA Tour’s greatest villain? Many would undoubtedly point their fingers at the weather conditions. For it has been anything but favorable for the Jay Monahan-led circuit. Even the ongoing playoff at Memphis saw unfavorable conditions affecting play. But now, it appears the Greg Norman-led LIV Golf is also in a similar predicament as the field, including Jon Rahm, Talor Gooch, and others, will find themselves affected by the worrying conditions.
An announcement was shared by LIV Golf Communications on its X handle mentioning how the shotgun start times for round 2 on August 17, Saturday was “moved up to 11:15 am EDT due to potential for inclement weather.” The play was initially set to start at 1.15 pm EDT but the adverse conditions mentioned in the forecast have now caused the first tee-off to move up to two hours.
Interestingly, the league has also announced in the tweet that the parking lots for the fans will open at 8.30 a.m. The gates, on the other hand, will open by 9.00 a.m. with the fan village remaining open for an hour after the completion of the second round. And when it comes to the coverage of the event, the community can catch the live version on the LIV Golf+ app, while the CW Network will only start its broadcast at 1.00 p.m. EDT.

Regardless of the early start at the $25 million event, the golfers, including Gooch, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka, among others will look to dominate the day’s play at the Old White, Greenbrier. The 2023 Individual Champion is currently tied at the top spot with two other athletes, including Jason Kokrak and Sebastian Muñoz, with a figure of 7-under.
The field, meanwhile, will hope that the PIF-funded circuit will not encounter a similar fate as the PGA Tour. The men’s circuit hasn’t had the best of years when it comes to weather, forcing a suspension of its tournaments. The likes of the 2024 Wyndham Championship and the ongoing FedEx St. Jude Championship have also fallen victim to the Tour’s peculiar fate with the inclement weather.

The first Playoff event for the 2024 FedEx Cup, taking place at TPC Southwind, Memphis, has managed to witness a delay in the tee times. For round 3 on Saturday will only start at 9:45–11:45 a.m. CT from the 1st and 10th tees. The reason? Well, the forecast appears to have picked up a possible thunderstorm on Saturday morning. What’s more, the hot and humid conditions that the event saw in the first two rounds will also be present on the third day’s play.
This isn’t the first time the men’s circuit has seen bad weather, making it worse for the PGA Tour. The 2024 Wyndham Championship saw Hurricane Derby affect the tournament, with the first round being suspended due to the same. Although the PGA Tour did try to finish the rest of the tournament by Sunday, darkness did force Matt Kuchar to finish his final hole on Monday morning. Regardless, it appears the weather is set out to play spoilsport for the game of golf, irrespective of the league.
