It’s natural to be nervous, more so when you’re part of a team without your captain, Jon Rahm, going into the finals for the championship title. But Tyrrell Hatton knows no such thing. Huh… Seems quite confident, doesn’t he? Well, “exciting” would be a more apt description of how he’s feeling ahead of the Team Championship finale in Dallas.
The golfer was spotted in an interview following the second day of play at the Maridoe Golf Club after defeating Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC. And Hatton, naturally, was inquired as to whether he was feeling some extra nerves owing to being on the first tee despite Rahm’s absence. His reply? “To be honest, no.”
He didn’t stop there. The golfer went on to express how he felt ahead of the title decider. “You just have to treat it like another Sunday,” added the pro, “Yeah, just go out there and try your best. It’s going to be quite an exciting finish with all four scores counting.” Yes, you read that right! Hatton and his team, Legion XIII, would be teeing it off in the first three holes (No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4) against the three other squads in Tier 1.

What else can the athlete and his squad look forward to? Well, Tyrrell Hatton was quite eager to tee off on Saturday at the Maridoe Golf Club. And his enthusiasm hasn’t changed one bit, for he said, “I think the course will probably play a little bit different to how it did today. Being set up for match play, I think there was a few more tees forward than what we’ll probably face tomorrow.”
The change in layout, however, didn’t seem to faze the ‘excited’ athlete. “It was nice for us to get out on the golf course today,” said Hatton before recounting Thursday and expressing his elation for the finale. “Yesterday was a fairly boring day, especially when you’ve been here since Tuesday, you kind of want to get started. Yeah, we’re looking forward to tomorrow.” Boring? How can he say that you’re probably thinking…Don’t get confused. Legion XIII didn’t need to tee off on the first day owing to their second spot on the leaderboard and the semifinal bye. Moreover, they even clinched a win despite Jon Rahm’s absence.
Rahm WD from the Dallas event, Tyrrell Hatton & Co. gets Catlin
“Jon has been experiencing severe flu symptoms the last few days,” wrote the official X handle of Legion XIII as they added how he will not tee it off this weekend. “He will continue to provide full support to his team,” said the post before disclosing the substitution for the Spaniard, “John Catlin will be the replacement.”

Have an interesting take?
Catlin’s entry, or more specifically, Rahm’s absence didn’t hinder their path forward as the team was able to defeat Phil Mickelson & Co. on Saturday. The squad did so by raking in the two points they needed through a win at the Singles between Tyrrell Hatton and Andy Ogletree, and a foursome victory by Caleb Surratt & Kieran Vincent over Mickelson & Steele. Although Catlin couldn’t emerge triumphant, he will be looking forward to redeeming himself on September 22, the final day of play at the Team Championship.
