It is a well-known fact by now that the OWGR does not count the points earned in LIV Golf. There is an ongoing debate about the matter. However, time and again, the LIV Golfers fighting to have their scores included have had to face disappointment.

Talking about the same, a famous golf world personality recently brought forth the case of Taylor Gooch on X. Fans were quick to react to his bold claim.

The OWGR is the prevalent system of World Golf Ranking used in the golfing fraternity. For every win in an event, a player is given a set share of points. However, that is not true of the golfers playing for LIV Golf. As these players made the move to LIV Golf, they are not being awarded OWGR points as LIV Golf doesn’t follow the format accepted by the OWGR system.

Recently, this issue has resurfaced through a tweet made by Dan Rapaport, a famous media personality involved in the world of golf. He pointed out how Talor Gooch’s OWGR ranking dropped even after he won the LIV season-long points in an incredibly competitive environment. Gooch’s rank dropped from somewhere around the 50th to 201.

Dan Rapaport wrote on X, “Talor Gooch won the LIV season-long points. Beat Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Joaquin Niemann to do so. He dropped from around 50th in the Official World Golf Ranking to start the season to now No. 201. Make it make sense.”

Dan’s bold plea to “make it make sense” garnered a lot of attention on X. A large number of fans poured in with their opinions on the burning issue. The drop in the pro golfers’ rank got the golf world talking.

How did fans react?

Fans were quick to respond to this comment. Most of the fans who reacted to this post by Dan Rapaport on X seemed to disagree with the point made by him. Most of the fans sided with OWGR on this matter.

However, there were also some who supported the LIV Golfers’ demands for their LIV score being included in the OWGR rankings. All in all, it was a diverse set of responses. Here are some of the reactions:

One of the fans cleared up Rapaport’s confusion and sided with OWGR on the matter by bringing into focus the different format of LIV Golf.

Another fan simply pointed out that Talor Gooch’s present reality clearly follows from his decision to play in LIV Golf – a league that does not qualify for OWGR points.

Yet another fan on X pointed out how LIV is an “exhibition” Tour, and Gooch’s decision is the sole reason why he is at 201st position in the world.

One fan chose to keep things simple. They explained that this is what LIV players signed up for, and it is simply a matter of their choice.

A fan agreed that LIV Golf is highly competitive. However, regardless of its competition level, one can not negate how it follows a completely different format and is not included in the OWGR rankings.

Another fan explained that even after having top players playing on LIV, it is still easier to win than the accepted series by the OWGR.
