Joaquin Niemann misses a grand feat by a narrow margin! The first event on the 2024 LIV Golf calendar is finally off to a scintillating start, with the Chilean professional currently leading the scorecard. Interestingly, during his first day of play, the golfer was almost equaling a record for the lowest round ever scored across the various circuits. However, it appears the record was not meant to be his!
The 25-year-old finished the round with a 12-under 59, two strokes more than the 57, which would have raked him the record for the lowest round ever across the PGAT, DP World Tour, KFT, LET, or even LPGA Tour. A tweet was shared by Flushing It on X, showcasing his interview following the round. It seems the athlete did not know he was close to the record until on the 18th hole, when he realized, “Shit, it’s a par 71!” all thanks to the shouting of the crowd. This also makes him part of an elite list of golfers who scored low in the Saudi-backed league, along with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, who is at the top of the same list with a 58 at LIV Golf Greenbrier.
Joaco Niemann said he didn’t know he was on a 59 until people were shouting at him on the 18th.

Joaquin Niemann follows Bryson DeChambeau’s suit
The El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba, Mexico saw an amazing display of golf as the LIV Golf Pro carded a total of 10 birdies and an eagle on the 11th to become part of an elite list of golfers in the game. His 59 makes his first round on Friday the 2nd sub-60 round in as many years on LIV Golf behind DeChambeau’s Greenbrier feat.

“Actually, I just realized it, I was really in the zone,” exclaimed an elated Niemann following the phenomenal performance on the first day of the event. During the interview, he recounted how he just wanted to “keep doing the same,” until the 18th, when the people started to shout at him to “go for a score of 50.” Realization dawned on the pro, eliciting the reaction from him. Nevertheless, “It was pretty cool,” he said after carding the score.
What about DeChambeau’s feat back in 2023? Well, during the LIV Golf event at The Old White Golf Course in Greenbrier, the 30-year-old was able to cement his place on the top of the leaderboard with a marvelous 23-under 187. Shockingly, he was able to do so with a 12-under-par 58 on the final day, becoming the lowest score ever for himself and the Saudi-backed Tour.
