Recently, Greg Norman’s departure as LIV Golf’s commissioner and CEO has sparked a heated exchange with Rory McIlroy, who welcomed the move, calling it “probably a good move”. The drama unfolded after Norman was replaced by Scott O’Neil earlier this month, marking a significant shift in LIV Golf’s leadership. Well, it looks like the inside scoop is finally coming out and the fans are here for it.
SBJ’s Josh Carpenter tweeted the latest news that Will Staeger, LIV Golf’s Chief Media Officer, has parted ways with the organization in what sources describe as a mutual decision. Staeger was one of the league’s original employees, joining in 2021, and played a key role in negotiating broadcast deals with The CW and, more recently, Fox Sports. Staeger’s departure comes as he pursues other opportunities in sports and entertainment through his company, Sonoma Sports & Entertainment.
Despite criticism over LIV’s initial broadcast deal with The CW, Staeger’s efforts helped secure a more favorable agreement with Fox, which will air tournaments across its main network and various channels. Staeger reflected on his time at LIV Golf, saying “I’m looking forward to pursuing some exciting entertainment ventures of my own after what has been a career-defining and inspiring partnership with LIV Golf… I will forever be rooting for LIV’s continued groundbreaking and innovative success from the other side of the ropes.” A LIV spokesperson also expressed gratitude for Staeger’s contributions, wishing him “all the best in his next chapter.”

Greg Norman, the former CEO of LIV Golf, is extending an olive branch to Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, two of the sport’s biggest stars. Norman wants to sit down with them to discuss how LIV Golf has benefited them, despite their public feud. “I would love to sit down and talk to them about it, no question about it,” Norman said. “Because I’m not a judgmental person and you only learn the facts and truth when you hear the other side of it.” He believes that the Saudi-backed tour has forced the PGA Tour to innovate and offer more lucrative deals, including the Player Impact Program (PIP), which has rewarded players like Woods and McIlroy with significant payouts. “I would love them to recognize the fact that — like Tiger with his PIP money — that only came because of LIV, right?” Norman added.
Norman, who was replaced as LIV Golf’s CEO by Scott O’Neil earlier this month, is eager to move on from the past and focus on the future. He plans to stay involved with LIV Golf to some extent and is proud of his impact on the sport. Norman believes that his efforts have “changed the game of golf” and is confident that he could win a debate with McIlroy and Woods about the benefits of LIV Golf. “But, yes, would I like to sit down with them? Sure, absolutely. And you know what? I’d win the debate.” What do you think about Greg Norman’s desire to talk to Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods and do you believe he would really win?
