Three days of intense competition at Bedminster have finally concluded today. Undoubtedly, the game’s first two days were full of ups and downs. Where some cruised the greens smoothly, others found it difficult to tame the monstrous links. Registering his name in the former group, Cameron Smith once again proved why he is one of the top players in the world.
Not only did the Aussie professional manage to win the $4 million title on American soil, but he also surpassed some of the best golfers in the world, which included the likes of Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Branden Grace, and others. But how does it affect ‘Lefty’ and his aspirations in the league?

While previously being tied with Phil Mickelson, Smith shot exceptional birdies on three of the last four holes on Saturday, helping him to a 4-under 67. This allowed the golfer to build a substantial lead of 4 shots over his closest competitor. His win left him at 12 under par across the three rounds.

Even in terms of team victories, the Ripper GC, having Smith as the captain, grabbed an overwhelming triumph over the others. They ended up crushing the other teams with a final score of 20 under par. It was Bryson DeChambeau‘s Crushers GC that followed the title winners at 9 under par.
Additionally, this latest win marks the second title bearing Smith’s name under LIV Golf this year, while Phil Mickelson is yet to find a victory in the LIV league. The six-time major championship winner hasn’t been able to convert near-finishes into title victories.
Phil Mickelson’s dream round 2 at LIV Golf Bedminster meets a disheartening end
This year has been an interesting mix for golf icon Phil Mickelson. While the 53-year-old managed a T2 finish at the prestigious Masters tournament, the rest of the season hasn’t been ideal for the golfer. Particularly, the LIV Golf tournaments haven’t seen the 45-time PGA Tour winner claiming a single victory to his name.
Unquestionably, ‘Lefty’ has been among the veterans of the game who, during his prime, showcased the unmatched caliber he holds. In fact, in 2021, after registering his 6th major victory at the PGA Championship, the golf legend became the oldest-ever major winner at the age of 50.

However, his triumphs and laurels haven’t allowed him to taste a LIV victory since he joined the breakaway league. As a matter of fact, he came close to achieving his first win after a brilliant second round at LIV Golf Bedminster. Alas! The 4-under-par score turned from bad to worse after a couple of bogeys and a double bogey to concede a 4-over-par in the final round.
This plummeted the 6-time major winner to a tenth-spot finish in the tournament. Overall, it appears that the golf veteran will still have to search for his first win in the Saudi-backed league.
