$50 million up for stakes in LIV Miami
The eighth installment of the inaugural season will see LIV Golf return to the United States after visits to Bangkok and Jeddah. LIV Golf promised a big bonanza for the culminating event of the year. They certainly haven’t disappointed, with a look on the prize money enough to send a grown man into oblivion.
While LIV Golf has already seen multiple $25 million events in the past, the organizers have decided to go one up by laying out double that amount at the Miami event. Apart from that, there is a tweak in structure. Breaking away from the template, the finale will focus on team performances rather than individual brilliance.
The four top-ranked teams, namely the 4 Aces, the Fireballs, the Crushers, and the Stinger, directly qualify for the semis. They get a day off on Fridays, while the other eight teams battle out between themselves for a place in the top 8.
The winners of today’s matchups will take on the top 4 on the weekend. The final will make for a picturesque Sunday at the Blue Monster.
While the format of the event gives all teams a nearly equal footing, not many would go past the 4 Aces, led by 2-time Major Champion, Dustin Johnson. Barring three LIV events, the 4 Aces have emerged victorious in all other season events. The captain has also led from the front, raking up an additional bonus of $18 million for his achievements across the season. The 38-year-old amassed 121 total points in all LIV events combined, which earned him a place on top of the individual standings.
Total Purse and winner’s share for the LIV Golf Miami event
As mentioned above, the total purse for the team event is set at $50 million, the highest LIV has offered so far. The winning team gathers $16 million followed by $8 million for the runners-up. In line with their rule of everybody getting a piece of the cake, the lowest-ranked teams get $1 million each.
