Opposites attract, as the saying goes, seems to prove true when talking about Mr. and Mrs. Mickelson. Amy Mickleson’s sweet and calm demeanor stands in perfect contrast to the 53-year-old golfer’s quick temper. It’s no secret that Mickelson has rubbed many people the wrong way throughout his golfing career and has garnered quite a notorious reputation and more than a few naysayers. But the golfer finds his biggest supporter in his wife, and it seems to make quite the difference too.
In his book, Shipnuck goes on to highlight the crucial role Amy Mickelson plays in salvaging the reputation of the American golfer. The writer does not see Lefty’s wife as just his fan but believes her to be one of the most effective PR people in the game.
Amy Mickelson gets raving reviews from Shipnuck
Shipnuck has taken more than a few jabs at Mickelson over the years. The sportswriter has revealed many controversial stories about the American golfer, such as the comments on Saudi Arabia made by the 6-time major winner, where he allegedly claimed that Lefty called the Saudi people “scary motherf******.” The revelations made by Shipnuck led to many serious repercussions for the golfer.

But when it comes to Lefty’s wife Amy Mickelson, the writer could not help but praise the Californian. He spoke about the down-to-earth nature of the golfer’s wife in his book and wrote, “Amy, who greets almost every reporter she knows with a hug.”
Shipnuck recalled the old memories of walking around countless holes with Amy Mickelson and spoke about the conversations that he had with her about their kids and life on the golfing greens. Shipnuck shared the gentle way in which Amy Mickelson reacted whenever her husband used to make any mistakes on the golfing course or did something crazy. According to Shipnuck, Mrs. Mickleson would just say “Oh Philip” and sigh.
