Is Cameron Tringale's absence a sign of deeper issues within LIV Golf's player management?

LIV Golf has taken a back seat as the 2024 season concluded in September. But that only indicates that it is time to start reshuffling the teams, release some players, renew the contracts of others, and relegate the bottom-most golfers. The 2025 season of LIV Golf will start in February 2025, and by then, there might be some new golfers on the breakaway circuit and the same old faces too.

However, amid all, one golfer’s run on LIV Golf may or may not end. In the latest episode of the Fairway to Heaven podcast, surprisingly, there was no guest with Su Ann Heng and Jerry Foltz. Last week, as LIV’s and Onion shared on X, it was teased that the guest would be Cameron Tringale. However, he was absent, and instead, the host discussed how Phil Mickelson’s team member’s contract had expired.

It was probably why the 37-year-old missed the Fairway to Heaven podcast as Foltz revealed that negotiations were going on about Tringale renewing his contract and staying with LIV Golf for the next season. If this does not happen, like Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, who are replacing at least one golfer from their teams, Lefty would have to find a new member too and replace Tringale. And his absence on the podcast hinted that Tringale might be on the move.

This will surely increase the stress for Greg Norman, who is the exiting CEO and trying to attract new talent to his league, and Mickelson would be left to fill the gap that Tringale would leave behind, as he was the better player in the team HyFlyers GC at the time when the team is already struggling to post top finishes. Furthermore, it will be a hit back at the breakaway circuit, more so because the merger with the PGA Tour is still not finalized and instead of growing the league, a key player will be leaving them. Although, as per a few reports, the merger might happen in another 6 months, that honestly, remains to be seen.

But Tringale might not be the only one without a contract in the end; these golfers may not continue on LIV Golf in the 2025 season either.

On the LIV Golf Standings, there are nine pros under the drop zone and soon getting relegated from the league. However, among them, the breakaway circuit decided to retain Anthony Kim, despite his poor form, and let go of Hudson Swafford as a wildcard. On the other hand, Range Goats GC captain Bubba Watson is also 53rd on the rankings and at risk of missing the next season, as LIV Golf has now changed relegation rules. But Watson could be kept in the league for business reasons.

The Vincent brothers will be losing their 2025 cards as well because they finished Scott Vincent 51st and Kieran Vincent 54th in the standings. Joining them is Cleeks GC’s Finnish pro, Kalle Samooja, and the South African native, Branden Grace. Except for Watson, all those golfers are for sure leaving the league, as it also happened last year.

The relegated golfer, though, will get a chance to get the 2025 membership of LIV Golf if they participate in LIV Golf Promotion in mid-December and earn one of the three cards available to the top three golfers in the LIV Golf Promotions final leaderboard. As old team members get ready to leave the disruptive league, it would be exciting to see their replacement in the 2025 season.
