American golfer Patrick Cantlay has once again squashed rumors of him joining LIV Golf. The 31-year-old consistently remains in the center of LIV’s rumor mill. However, he has time and again proven his allegiance to the PGA Tour. It looks like his latest comment will put an end to it completely.

A major reason for his switch to LIV being a big thing was his being open to both. When LIV Golf came into existence, most of the players were quick to pick a side. However, the American golfer remained impartial to both. But now it looks like he has turned down LIV Golf and the hefty sum they offered.

In an interview with Golf.com, the American golfer sided completely with the PGA Tour. He revealed LIV Golf offered him a hefty sum to join, but he turned it down. However, he does not judge the players who chose to join the Saudi-backed league for the paycheck.

“I don’t think it’s a surprise that there’s a certain type of player that’s tended to go over there, on the whole. For me? I have no plans on joining LIV. I don’t plan on joining LIV, I see myself playing on the PGA Tour,” he declared.

Patrick Cantlay, however, also declared his team had a discussion with LIV in the past, with the latest one happening in 2023. But he declined the offer in the same meeting he got to know it, showing his allegiance to the PGA Tour.

It had never officially been revealed what the signing-on fee was for Cantlay to join LIV Golf. But there were rumors of the amount online. According to golf biographer Alan Shipnuck, the amount was close to $75 million!

How much did LIV Golf offer other pros?

The amount offered to the American golfer is a hefty one, no doubt. But it still falls behind what was offered to some other pros. Brooks Koepka joined LIV Golf for $130 M, Dustin Johnson for $ 150 M, and Phil Mickelson for a record $200 M.

With these staggering amounts, Cantlay’s offer looks a bit short. But now the 31-year-old has completely refuted the Saudi-backed league. He would also be looking to put the HatGate controversy behind him in the upcoming season. Do you think he will join LIV Golf in the future? Let us know in the comments section below.
