Jon Rahm is slowly organizing his team, Legion XIII, ahead of the season opener in February. After Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg brushed aside the rumors, the defending Masters champion has a top-ranked amateur on his radar.

Handicap 54 reported that Caleb Surratt, currently No. 10 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and who “was going to be part of the Junior Ryder Cup 2021 (which became a (sic) exhibition of the team, played on Wednesday of that week), has caught the attention of the defending Masters Champion. Additionally, the Indian Trail native was also a pivotal member of the U.S. Walker Cup squad. Surratt notched three points from his four outings as the USA cruised past Great Britain and Ireland.

Previously, Kieran Vincent, who qualified through the Promotions Tournament last month, was touted to be Rahm’s teammate. However, per the latest rumors, it’s Surratt who will be the third member of the four-man roster. The youngster was also very close to claiming the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur title before succumbing to Wenyi Ding. Nevertheless, the University of Tennessee sophomore went on to net seven top-10 finishes from his eleven outings in the 2022–23 season, winning twice at the SEC Championship and Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Last October, Surratt came close to bagging his third amateur title at the Fighting Irish Classic. Eventually, the young gun had to settle for the second spot. But if everything falls into place, the Indian Trail native will soon be heading to Mayakoba next month. Aside from Surratt, what else do we know about Jon Rahm’s team?

Legion XIII: Is Jon Rahm making his dream team?

Previously, there were wild rumors of top PGA Tour pros joining Rahm in bolting to the rebel league. However, like their Scandinavian counterparts, Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay on the other side of the pond have also quashed the rumors. A few days ago, Marca reported that Zimbewean Kieran Vincent was set to be included in Rahmbo’s team. Although there was no official confirmation from any parties, the Spanish media outlet cited insider sources to point out that Vincent will be the first signing of the LIV Golf pro’s four-man roster, Legio XIII.

Legion XIII draws its name from Julius Caesar’s famous Legio XIII Gemina, or the 13th Twin Legion. Surprisingly, Rahm’s side will also be the 13th team in the breakaway league. From the way the Spaniard has swayed popular opinion in LIV Golf’s favor, the name won’t be an exaggeration.
