Since its inception, the LIV Golf Series has been denied golf ranking points by the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The clamor for recognition has surged over the last few weeks with the addition of new players on the circuit, alongside the drop in rankings of long-existing LIV players.

Last month, 50 LIV golfers sent out a letter requesting OWGR chairman, Peter Dawson, to look into the matter. While the association has continued to hold a muted stance, the increased voices for rankings forced LIV to take an alternate turn.

A week before the event commences in Bangkok, LIV Golf has signed up a strategic partnership with the MENA Tour. The association was founded in 2011 with the responsibility of conducting golf tournaments in the Middle East and North Africa. However, the situation remains obsolete since MENA has executed zero events post-COVID-19.

With LIV Golf onboard, MENA has sent out an application to OWGR for inducting the rebel league’s players on their membership. Meanwhile, the OWGR has maintained that LIV Golf will be starved of rankings until it adheres to their guidelines for at least one year prior to inclusion, which will be around 2024.

But the lack of official points won’t be a hindering problem for pro golfers, who have all the riches to play for in another highly generous LIV event.

Total Purse and winner’s share for the 2022 Bangkok LIV event

A customary purse of $25 million awaits the 48-member field size, of which $20 million is set aside for individual winners. The winner of the event at Stonehill will take home a cheque worth $4 million and will become the first-ever LIV Golf winner at its debut Asian event.

The 4 Aces GC have created a dynasty of their own with four successive victories in the inaugural edition of the Tour. Another victory in Bangkok will undoubtedly stamp their authority as the team to beat in the seasons going forward.
