"Is Richard Bland's career resurgence proof that age is just a number in golf?"

Having been through probably one of the longest winning droughts in golf history, the story of Richard Bland is a live testament to the power of perseverance and a strong work ethic in the game of golf. Surely, good things take time, and Bland’s journey to financial abundance is one such thing.

After switching pro back in 1996, Bland had to wait till his 478th professional start to finally taste the sweet flavors of victory at the European Tour’s 2021 Betfred British Masters at the age of 48. Thenceforth, it has only been an upward ride for the 51-year-old. Coming so close to a lead at the 2022 U.S. Open, earning an unbelievable sum with a move to the bountiful LIV Golf league, and winning the 2024 Senior PGA Championship with a three-stroke lead over runner-up Richard Green, destiny finally seems to be in Bland’s favor.

Interestingly enough, Bland seems to not waste a moment of his precious gifted time with destiny and has already earned multi-millions. Yes, you heard that right. Multi-millions! So what exactly is Richard Bland’s net worth?

A closer look into Richard Bland’s money matters: career earnings uncovered

The Cleeks GC founding member has done the unthinkable in his three years on LIV Golf. Estimated to host a net worth of $4 million, Bland’s career earnings on LIV Golf will blow your mind. His cumulative earnings on the Saudi-backed league add to a grand total of $11,402,361, with the 2024 season alone contributing $3,352,613.

Despite being short of an individual win on the Greg Norman-led initiative, Bland’s five-top 10 finishes and his consistent participation coupled with LIV Golf’s no-cut policy seems to have done the deal for this pro golfer who is also a Tiger Woods fan.

Age is truly just a number, as the story of the oldest first-time winner ever on the European Tour will tell you. Bland’s stint with the DP World Tour, and decades of dedication in his 511 starts, fetched him $7.99 million in total. Putting it in a comparative lens with his two and a half years on LIV Golf, it does seem like a small amount, but considering his tryst with destiny before he turned 48, it was hard-earned.

Have an interesting take?

Talking about the other professional earnings of Richard Bland, his PGA and Majors earnings fetched him almost $418,557. Furthermore, his hard-earned and lucky appearance leading to an eventual win at the 2024 Senior PGA Championship contributed an additional $630,000 to his career earnings, which skyrocketed his estimated total career earnings to a high sum of $20,440,918 million. Quite surprising for someone who had to wait till 48 to win his first professional title on the European Tour, isn’t it?

What are some of the brands backing up Bland in his late-blooming golf saga?

While the LIV Golf pro is not very open about his collaborations with the brands, his association with TRUE Linkswear UK and the company’s efforts to support him through all his successes hint at a potential collaboration between the two.

Previously, Bland has had close ties with apparel and equipment brands like TaylorMade, Callaway Golf, Titleist, and FootJoy for his footwear. He has also famously endorsed Oscar Jacobson Golf for several years. Lately, the LIV Golf pro often adorns his team, Cleeks GC’s gear, and famously the Titleist hat.

Bland’s choice of hat has long been a matter of debate with the pro opting for his hometown club, The Wisley Golf Club’s headpiece at the 2021 U.S. Open due to a dearth of sponsors. Talking about it, he said, “I don’t have a hat kind of deal at the minute, so if anyone is offering…”

This led to a major debate online with fans questioning how none of the marketing teams of major golf brands thought of Bland as a potential representative for their gear. Shortly after, PointsBet Sportsbook reached out to the pro golfer. However, he chose not to accept the offer and instead stayed loyal to his home club. It was a move that led to queues of fans wanting to sport the London-based The Wisley Golf Club’s hat, a Bland favorite.

With the multimillion made by Richard Bland, it seems a hat sponsorship would be no issue. Surely, LIV Golf has its ways of turning around a falling star into a rising one.
