The PGA has finally released a statement on the players who are still in contract with them but are playing at the inaugural LIV Golf event. However, the LIV Tour was quick enough to release a statement of its own, responding to the PGA’s press release.

The LIV Golf has the financial backing of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which has helped sign top golfers for a nine-figure deal to play. Although the PGA Tour has made an effort to attract the players by increasing the prize money of various tournaments, they are plenty short of what LIV Tour’s offering.

LIV Golf’s Response

The official statement was released on June 9th. LIV Golf has called PGA’s statement ‘vindictive‘. It read, “Today’s announcement by the PGA Tour is vindictive and it deepens the divide between the Tour and its members.” It further read, “It’s troubling that the Tour, an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for golfers to play the game, is the entity blocking golfers from playing.

LIV Golf also labeled the current Golf environment as free agency. It stated, “This certainly is not the last word on this topic. The era of free agency is beginning as we are proud to have a full field of players joining us in London, and beyond.”

The Golf world was eagerly waiting for a statement from the PGA. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan slammed the players for their participation in the Saudi-backed Tour.

He mentioned that participation in the Saudi Golf League/LIV Golf will result in the violation of PGA’s regulations. He also warned all current PGA stars who are considering joining the Saudi Golf League in the near future. Their PGA Membership will be revoked and they won’t be able to participate in any PGA Events in the future if they go through with it.

The commissioner is confident about the loyalty of the fans. He also believes the fans are tired of all the money talk involved in the LIV Tour and is positive that the fans will remain entertained and compelled by the level of competition the PGA Tour delivers.
