It’s surprising how just one incident can suddenly change the climate of a situation in a very short period of time. The LIV Golf and PGA Tour tiff seemed in control, with talks of a merger and peace-making efforts. However, the Jon Rahm situation that the TGL recently faced has brought the conflict into discussion again.

With thoughts and opinions being shared by fans, one LIV Golf player has opened up about the feud. He acknowledged the rumors about the two tours and the debatable future of the merger. However, he claimed the players are not really in the loop, and they are waiting for updates on what exactly is going on behind the veil.

Speaking at the Volvo China Open, Graeme McDowell addressed the status of the merger between the two tours. Of late, doubts about whether the merger will come through have increased with very little progress from the tours on the matter.

The 11-time European Tour winner said, “I don’t think any of us going to LIV wanted the game to be fractured the way it’s been fractured. We love the game and want to see healing.” It appeared from his remarks that he was deeply upset by the way things rolled out in recent years. Notably, he admitted after he made the move to LIV that it was primarily because of the lucrative package that they offered.

McDowell expressed disappointment in the conflict between the tours and said that ultimately it’s the fans and sport that lose out. He shared his optimism about a potential healing that will fix golf. He hoped for some sort of alignment between the two biggest tours in the sport.

McDowell admitted he has been following up with online rumors about the roadblocks ahead of the merger. He claimed that “we hear rumors but really don’t know what is going on.” It appears that the players have received no concrete updates about the future of the merger as such.

Will the multibillion-dollar merger go through?

Reportedly, very little progress has transpired in relation to the merger reaching its milestones by the December 31 deadline. It seems that the PGA Tour is distracted by the fresh offers from investors that have come their way of late.

As per Alan Shipnuck’s tweets, the Fenway Sports Group is in talks with the PGA Tour about a major investment. He also shared his theory that the Tour can’t survive for long without external investment. However, going by the unofficial updates online, perhaps the PGA Tour will find funds from other sources than the PIF.
